Wow, this song is sublime. And those lyrics are dark, but funny. Hopefully I'm not misreading this song beyond belief!

Very well done, Frank!!!!

I can kinda hear the "everything is new" comparison....but yeah, this song sounded a tad bit TOO sarcastic the first play, but about the third play, it clicked for me. Great song. I love this album. I just wish I could get more than 10 tracks of it to play.

Yeah sorry bout the vague post, but came home at 4am after 8 hour drinking session to find first five songs on honeycomb. Myself and fellow forumite Don Eduardo listened to them about 50 times and I got a bit excited.
My Life Is In Storage is damn catchy too...I just love the way this album sounds, cant wait for the rest.

I still have a hard time listening to FB's narrative songs. They all sound so "Gina works the diner all day, working for her man, she brings home her pay, its tough, so tough" or whatever that damn bon jovi song is.

Its a good song, and not simple by any means, but, I just dont think that type of 'storytelling' is FB's strong suit.

This is a nice song but sounds too much repetitive for me...I prefer by far My life is in storage and Selkie Bride. All around the world sounds too much country for me...

Selkie is a type of race in the Final Fantasy - Crystal Chronicals game.

Not having heard the song, I have no idea, but that's the first thing that came to mind when I heard the song title. Maybe FB enjoys video games/anime?

Selkie is from celtic mythology. They are Seal women who shed their skin and become human while on land. If you gain possession of their coat/skin and hide it, they will marry you and be very dutiful wives. If they ever find their coats again, they will bolt for the sea. There was a good movie about the legend called The Secret of Roan Inis, which is Irish for Seal Island.

One-ef-jeff, shame on you for implying that frank would borrow from a cheesey role-playing game. The Man is well read and familar with esoteric lore.

Can't get music out of my stone age electro-ennumerator, I've been going
around telling everyone this album's going to seriously slay everyone
who hears it (hopefully not literally) and the news is gonna break in a
big way that Frank is here, so what's the word? is it unusually
monumental? A couple of weeks ago I used the words Blonde on Blonde to
describe this record I haven't heard yet, should I be lowering my
expectations?

"The Secret of Roan Inish"(dir. John Sayles) is a nice Selkie story.

It does remind me of Blonde On Blonde indeed. Although I'm not a Dylan expert, and B on B is the only Dylan album I own.

I have to agree that Violet is probably my least fave track - lyrically very cool (except, and perhaps I miss the meaning, I didn't really care for the blue as the sky/red as blood part), the flower of fertility part and the whole sort of explanation of why he and Jean had to make a strange goodbye was really well done. But Strange Goodbye is the song that chokes me up. It's really good and really, really sad. I'm not a guy to get choked up easily, but...

Yeah, which he seems to be more and more what Frank is moving to. There were always hints of country in his music, but it's become full out now. I like the obscurity and riddle a little better myself, I guess. But Speedy Marie is a difficult song for anyone to top and is one of my all-time fave FB songs, so... I don't know what I'm getting at.

strange goodbye chokes me up too - sad, sad song - but somehow they're optimistic it seems - i guess it shows that things in life aren't just black and white - that a divorce can be painful but friendly and still open to collaboration (obviously as she's singing on the track and did backing vocals on "Manitoba" and the artwork {i think} for SMYT). "violet" is my least fav right now along with "lone child" but i'm sure they'll both grow on me.

Whew, I knew it was going to be good but drivin' and cryin', that's exeptional, thanks for the reassurance O matriarch. As much as FBF was a different place pre tour it might seriously morph post Honeycomb.

...and the new supermarket muzak version of SSMVGD does not deserve to be heard in the same cosmos as the San Francisco 2000 version. It sounds neutered by comparison. Maybe our boy's getting old.

Back to the topic title, does anyone else hear the Lou Reed in this? Wow. It's like the essence of Lou with a side of hot delicious paper-bag french fries. :)

I can't wait to hear the final version.
