Okay,

I for YEARS (coz I am truly dense and did not read my sleeve notes like a good girl should), thought that he was singing about SELLING INSURANCE, instead of Sailing and Shoring...

Just wondered if I was alone in being flaky & illiterate...

i never thought this but i read somewhere on the net that "rhythmically to resound" in Planet Of Sound was misheard by some as "rip the clitoris out"....i suppose the consonants are pretty much the same...

jane the queen of love - sounds like he says "i heard a freulein, and i hope that isn't yooooouuuu... Jane..." (pronuounced germanically) when the lyric sheets claim he says "i heard a phone line, and i hope that isn't you"

One from my daughter: Bartholomew, how'd you end up in the coffin?

As she is only 4 I think she picked it up wrongly from my attempts at capturing Frank's sneer. I like her version though.

I got Debaser wrong a couple of times. Andalusia kept sounding like 'anderlamusia'. and also like 'I'm gonna lose ya'

ok, so i'm 4 years old too. i thought he said coffin too.. i mean, it makes more sense anyway. can someone explain what he means by saying end up in the coffee? is that some slang term i'm not familiar with..

i heard somewhere that bart is about a homeless guy he used to pass on the street.

anyway that clitoris thing cracked me up.. someone's got issues perhaps. :)

The fact you are all missing is that my daughter is obviously incredibly advanced for her age. Her love of Frank suggests that she is already deeply mature and has a well-rounded personality. Either that or she is deeply morbid ('coffin').

alright, here's another one:

in Hate Me, right after he says "my shirt is shitty", to me it sounds like he says something like "i almost shit the bed tonight".. does anyone know what he's really saying? because i'm doubting it's that.

The selling insurance thing is fucking hilarious. Here is mine though, on All My Ghosts where he sings, "Hank the Eighth, was a duplicated man"! I thought he said, "and the APE, was a duplicated man"!

Hey Arjaan, did not see Goldmember yet, I heard they do a lot of funny wrongly pronounced dutch in it, can't blame them. So do you speak ''nederlands'' by any change? you do have a dutch name. Or Afrikaans? I know one line Afrikaans: God dank vir klank

maybe a bit off topic here, here's one misheard lyric from me:

'It's a damn we play 666''

that doesn't make any sense at all

my grandparents are dutch... hence the dutch tradition of naming the eldest son after the grandfather. having dutch grandparents has produced some fairly amusing moments, my gran always says "all ze best" and "sank you", that still cracks me up, i speak dutch (with an english accent) and afrikaans, goldmember's funny - go watch it

i have a live version of BIG RED, at the end of which Frank acknowledges the crowd's appreciation with a "sank you, sank you" pronounced kind of french/dutch. anyone know where he played this gig?

my contributions are all tangential and deviating way off topic, so to get back to topic...
one i was always deluded about was I'VE BEEN TIRED's "tell me one of your biggest fears i said losing my penis to a HORRID disease"
as opposed to losing it to a "WHORE WITH disease" (not much difference in the end) come on pilgrim has no liners, so you're expected to figure it out yourself in the pre-internet era

I dunno...it seems to make more sense with "horrid disease" because of the next line...

i said "losing my penis to a whore with disease"
"just kidding" i said "losing my life to a whore with disease"

Wouldn't it make more sense if he was worried of losing his life to a horrid disease instead of some prostitute?

But on a closer listen, I guess you can't hear the "D" at the end of "whore with", so I stand corrected, and you may consider myself enlightened after all these years!

sasquatch, to be fair your logical argument is nonetheless infallible; the "just kidding" bit implies an imminent correction to the preceding phrase, ie that the part preceding "just kidding" differs to the phrase after "just kidding". do i sound verbose?

"We heard some mother fillers talking"...

It really seems like "mother" is strongly accented, I never would of guessed "some other" if I hadn't check the lyric sheet.

I'm with mattkendall on this one, I thought that FOREVER. And it makes sense...instead of saying "mother fuckers"..."mother fillers"...avoiding swearing in a way that doesn't seem odd of FB to do. I don't know.

i read somewhere that the reason the gigantic single had a picture of a baby and a glove was because the guys at vaughan olivers heard the lyric not as "a big-big-love" but a "baby glove"

"Where Is My Mind?" - instead of "except a little fish, but they told me he swears, he's trying to talk to me he said wait wait wait"
I heard "except a little fish, bl ha h li lo o lo lf lf l l aia iai ai ia -- "
actually which is right?..

Another common mistake, you think Frank sings in Rock Music "Your mouth a mile away" (or whatever it is), whereas the correct lyrics are "Aaaaaaaaaauuuuuggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"

Along the lines of the "Fräulein" thing, I originally heard "I like that lemur I lick it that's Velvety" as "ach du lieber, look at that Velvety."

This is my first post to this forum, by the way, so hello.

And in Rock Music Frank seems to sing something spanish

In general, I have often thought Frank was introducing me to more vocabulary, only to realise I had misheard the words. Like in Dead the part "hey waddya know, your lovely tan belly . . ." I always had a made up word so it came out like "you're lovely, tangerly, and start it to grow . . ."

I thought the Debaser lyrics were more like "I ain't gonna lose ya" but all strung together by Black Francis. Also, I heard "You are your hippo crapper" in Dead. I had a friend who thought it was "Needle inside of her nose" on Dig For Fire. Also heard something like "your love is nice as bees and horses ride" in Bone Machine. "Where the tritons are (is that even right?)" from the Swimmer sounded like "in the trident zone/czar". I also read a track listing from a pre-DitS bootleg of a show calling the song "The Trial is On," which, after listening, totally sounds right.

Actually this little exercise has made me realize that I could go on like this for several pages. I guess I just don't hear very well.

"Hard not to have fun when you're hitting balls halfway to the moon."

On 'the modern age' on devils i thought he said 'stop analysing my car' when it should be 'stopped at a light in my car'.
i thought my misheard lyric gave a better image.

perhaps I can offer some pseudo-Freudian psychoanalytic theories to some of these mis-hearings. . and try to get to the bottom of your unconscious fears and anxieties..

classic Oedipal complex.. (El Barto too).. couldn't be more obvious.

a textbook example of penis envy .. it is common for people with serious self-consciousness about their penis size to overcompensate by imagining themselves as being much larger than they actually are. hence the "my pee-pee long" image.

buying a large SUV or other off-road vehicle is another common expression of this..

I would recommend extensive therapy and penis counseling. (and/or possible penis extension if the situation persists)..

this mishearing could be a classic case of penis envy projected as car envy.. with the car substituting for the phallic image..

or it could, in this case, simply be a literal paranoia about ones car.. a common syndrome in the 20th century, where so much emphasis is placed on cars and fashion..

I recommend buying a motorcycle or a vespa.

sadly, this person has yet to make the transition to adulthood and overcome the bedwetting (in this case, shitting) stage of life - clearly represented by anxiety about defecating in bed..

hey, wait, that's me..

johndietzel seems to suffer from the similar adult bedwetting syndrome (a.b.s) that afflicts floop. I recommend electroshock therapy and lots of toilet paper next to the bed.

also, you're friend should lay off the drugs.

doryphore is either having some difficulties in her personal relationship or perhaps at work (anxiety about getting fired).. the lion representing the threat of being attacked and devoured, metaphorically...

or.. she's just an animal lover, cats in particular. can't figure this one out.. :)

When I first bought the self-titled Catholics album my brother wasnt a fan (now he's a member of this forum-I knew he'd come around). Well, Suffering was my favourite song on the album at the time so I used to play it ad nauseam- in the chorus he thought it said "I've been surfing"
I've never let him live that one down

'I thought that I would stay just for a while'
