Hey gang, we need to get a FAQ happening to avoid getting the same common questions over and over, so i'm asking two things from you folks:
* Would someone like to volunteer to organize a Frank Black FAQ? All it would involve is collecting repetative common questions and answers, and organzing them in a Word or TXT file.
* Please post your FAQ's and answers here to help expediate the process for our lucky collector!
As a bonus, the Collector will get a special title and be featured in our bio section...oooh! The fame and glory, and your very own email form!
First person to post here can have the position, if you want to help them out, send them a note.
Thanks everyone! |

Q: Do you think the Pixies will ever get back together?
A: No! (Unless they get in to The Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame, then maybe for two songs . . .)
Q: Hey Strong Bad, how do you type with gloves on?
A: DELETED!

Here's one for the FAQ: What are the levels that are listed under the member names, and how are they achieved, etc.?

I heard a rumor that there's going to be a Teenager of the Year musical. Is that true?

What movies have Frank/Pixies songs appeared in?
that seems to get asked a lot, there's a thread on here that answered it pretty well. |

You should have a section that explains the process of Live to 2 track recording.

How about a section with discography with scans of all the covers including singles, bootlegs etc. Iam certain with the amount of members we have we could get everything. I have about 40+ singles and boots. |

OK, maybe we should clear things up. This is a FAQ. That is, "Frequently Asked Questions." Lyrics and discography are not FAQ material. That's for the song DB. |

Some ideas:
Q: Why two albums at once? A: Many variations on "because we had the material and it was two distinct sessions and we think we are hot stuff"
Q: Aren't Frank Black fans just holdovers, jonesin' for more of the Pixies? A: There might be a few, but they shouldn't be strictly classified as Frank Black fans, rather "just holdovers, jonesin' for more of the Pixies." Frank Black fans in the true sense appreciate his current and ongoing artistry quite independent of previous musical incarnations.
Q: Why is Frank so moody? A: Myriad answers to this one. My favorite being, why are YOU so moody (not in a "defensive" answer but in a "consider my question and perhaps the answer will magically materialize)?
Q: Do Kim & Frank hang out/talk/etc? A: No. They have had little or no relationship outside of the Pixies context.
Q: Does Frank keep in touch with his Pixies bandmates (or specific to Dave or Joey)? A: Frank and Joey, as longtime pals, are on good terms, and continue their friendship and apparently 'hang out' as So Cal neighbors occasionally. Frank and Dave L are also on friendly terms, the latter recently touring with the former as a part of his (whatever he calls it--with url?)
Q: Is Frank Black his real name? A: No, he was born Charles Michael Kitteridge Thompson IV (I think) on ____ __, 1965 in Long Beach, Ca (?).
Q: Why did he change his stage name from Black Francis? A: Apparently he wanted to retain some of the connotation from his Pixies-era entity, perhaps also to make it easier to swallow for Pixies fans following him through into solo work. Specifically, Frank has stated that in contrast to the "pretentious" and "arty" Black Francis moniker, Frank Black is a no-nonsense, real, everyday-sounding name, and more appropriate to his new musical adventure.
Q: What's up with this live (or two track . . .) recording crap? Isn't it just Frank being lazy or sloppy? A: Frank's answer to this question generally includes one or more of the following: you should try working within the narrow parameters of recording live, without edits, as was the standard means back in rock & roll's infancy. We dig the sound. It captures our sound better. More raw. Cheaper and easier for us. . . . .
Q: What kind of music is Frank listening to/what are his influences? A: (a little help here, please) Frank has mentioned the following: Iggy/stooges, Kinks/Ray Davies, VU, Stones, Dylan, Beatles, (many classic original rock n roll pioneers and blues people . . .), Desmond Dekker, Link Wray, Larry Norman, Husker Du, Dick Dale, Ventures . . . . .

I might nix the "do frank and kim hangout" question, because as Frank said, we have no idea what his relationship is with Kim Deal, only speculations here and there. Just keep the "is frank in touch with former pixies" question, that answers it well enough. |

Well, I suppose I must find examples, but Frank has repeatedly stated that he does not talk to Kim. Pretty plain I think.

Okay... off the top of my head:
- Who designed FB's CD covers? (This could actually be included in a comprehensive discography.) - What guitars does Frank play? Does he have a favorite? - Did he ever play another instrument (esp. on record)? - What is a theremin? (You can hear one on "Parry the Wind") - I guess we can't avoid a "UFO question", although I think the answer could include mentioning Frank's current take on the subject (that he got sick of people always bringing up the subject, as if his songs were only about UFOs and aliens). - Maybe the FAQ should include a generic "What is that song about" question, with a link to the song DB. - Why did Pixies break up? Is it true that Black Francis fired the 3 others by sending them faxes? (I've read that somewhere, but I don't know if it's true, although I'm really doubtful.) - I think I read somewhere that Frank's house in LA was destroyed by the big earthquake of 1994. Did I dream that? - Kim who? :-P

How about?
Q: What is a FAQ? A: Frequently Asked Question(s).
I think some people don't get it (no offense). |

Thank God, because I don't want to answer all of them! ;-)Okay, so far I'm definitely creating sections on the following topics: Oddballs, SSMVGD, live to 2-track recording (may need a little help from you gearheads on that one), and Teenager of the Year musical. Barto & Dave (or anyone else for that matter) see any glaring omissions? I'll be going through old threads in the next week and seeing what I can dig up. In terms of questions. That have been asked. Frequently. |

How about "WHAT THE GODDAMN HELL IS SSMVGD AND WHY CAN I NOT GET A FRIGGIN COPY?"
Like I'd never heard it mentioned before and then I get this random message asking me if I had a copy - even though I still have no clue about a) What it stands for (Something Sunday MVGD) and b) Where the Dickens could procure such an item.
For reasons explained in the off topic area, I have an aversion to ALL retail outlets at present.
Another on for you:
Did Frank always intend to go back to Velvety (I know I'm not the only one who is curious on this one...)
