HI! Wasn't Bob Dylan and Ani Difernacio-or-whatever-her-name-is down there just a few weeks ago. she made a crack about it that was all over the Dylan webpages - "Do you have a Christchurch Synagoge"? rather clever, I gotta admit. |

I don't think terrorists would target Frank Black and the Catholics. All the Islamic fundamentalists I know think that Dog In The Sand is a cracking album.

Hahaha, first, to so casually refer to "All the Islamic Fundamentalists I know..." and then to imply that they are synonymous with terrorism.
Funny on many levels, though I get the actual intent, just still funny.
And hey, Terrorists may love hot dogs too, but that didn't stop them from flying planes into buildings in new york. (anyone catching this parallel?) |

Yeah interesting that Muslims tend to be portrayed in the media as crazy people firing guns in the air, burning straw effigies of Dubbya and shouting "Hoollallalloollaah" a lot, while Christians are portrayed as calm peace lovers. In Northern Ireland you can see Christian fundamentalists (Protestant and Catholic) chucking pipe bombs at schoolgirls, shooting guns in the air and generally acting like a boozed-up Taliban.

And on the Frank Black Message Board, you can read people acting like moronic idiots, seeing how many religions they can put down just to make a point.
It's funny. The world will never change. |

"And on the Frank Black Message Board, you can read people acting like moronic idiots, seeing how many religions they can put down just to make a point."
Where? This is the only place I've seen religion mentioned on the FB message board.
If you're meaning here, I'd like to point out that it is possible to mention religion without putting it down. Perhaps you should re-read the posts before jumping to conclusions.

____________________________________________________________________ Hello the swimmer
You received the following message from: leokearse (leo@leokearse.com)
At: http://forum.FrankBlack.net/
"And on the Frank Black Message Board, you can read people acting like moronic idiots, seeing how many religions they can put down just to make a point.
It's funny. The world will never change."
Having grown up in a sectarian society, where religion (Catholic v Protestant) has caused so much strife, I feel pretty entitled to treat all religion with the contempt it deserves.
That said, none of my comments were "putting down" any religion.
"I don't think terrorists would target Frank Black and the Catholics. All the Islamic fundamentalists I know think that Dog In The Sand is a cracking album."
is obviously a parody of the myth perpetrated in Western media that Islamic fundamentalists are all terrorists.
"Yeah interesting that Muslims tend to be portrayed in the media as crazy people firing guns in the air, burning straw effigies of Dubbya and shouting "Hoollallalloollaah" a lot, while Christians are portrayed as calm peace lovers. In Northern Ireland you can see Christian fundamentalists (Protestant and Catholic) chucking pipe bombs at schoolgirls, shooting guns in the air and generally acting like a boozed-up Taliban."
is a follow on comment just to maybe in some small way deconstruct this myth - Christian fundamentalists exist and are just as 'scary looking' as the Islamic extremists you see on Fox News. Though not as scary as your president.
I also take umbrage at being told that I'm "putting down religion" by an American - through Noraid, America funded terror attacks on my country by republican groups such as the IRA. ____________________________________________________________________
Dear Crackpot,
I could give a WHO-HAH about religion myself.
I wasn't calling you out in particular, although, in the moronic idiots bunch, trust me, you're right up there.
The point that all fundamentalist extremist are bad no matter what religion was not lost on me, Einstein.
My point was, if you (collective, not YOU in particular, attention-starved as you are) want to continue to compare and put down ANYTHING, religion politics, sexual positions, you will continue to add to the problem, not the solution.
All niceties aside, Fuck you, and if you have something to say, Mr. Holier Than Thou Because You are European, say it on the boards.
Take UMBRAGE to this, Patty O' Whiner; I could give a fuck all about your proclamations of Anti-American feelings. I am not a flag waving lunatic....
But wait, who am I telling this to? Someone who generalizes anyway won't even understand what I am saying.

YOU SAID "My point was, if you (collective, not YOU in particular, attention-starved as you are) want to continue to compare and put down ANYTHING, religion politics, sexual positions, you will continue to add to the problem, not the solution."
So talking about it just "adds to the problem"? A Bushism if ever I heard one. Sharing views is the best way of enlightening opinion.
YOU SAID "All niceties aside, Fuck you, and if you have something to say, Mr. Holier Than Thou Because You are European, say it on the boards."
Why don't you keep your personal insults to yourself? Apart from anything else, I don't see that they're relevant. If you don't want to be emailed from this board, you should remove your email address.
YOU SAID "Take UMBRAGE to this, Patty O' Whiner; I could give a fuck all about your proclamations of Anti-American feelings. I am not a flag waving lunatic...."
Anti-American feeling? What? I simply stated a fact - that America funded terror attacks on my country (the UK) through the fund raising arm of the IRA (Noraid). This is a fact. Since 9/11 Noraid has found it hard to raise funds in America as previous supporters of the IRA realise that terrorism isn't a good thing, whatever the cause.
YOU SAID "But wait, who am I telling this to? Someone who generalizes anyway won't even understand what I am saying."
By attempting to deconstruct the myth that all Muslims are crazy extremists while Christians aren't, I was doing the OPPOSITE of generalising.

Bitchload, he did both, on the board AND privately, so if he wanted to do that, I asked not to be emailed personally. It wasn't a personal attack to begin with.
Why do I feel the need to explain to you anyway, pitchload?
And yes, I do masturbate in public to pictures of you because you are a sexy motherfucker and when I see you I can't help myself.
And as for you Leo, you aren't even worth it. You are a moron, plain and simple.

The Swimmer, that's not cool. When someone has the courtesy to email you personally and privately to discuss a matter which you publicly made personal, you should have the courtesy to either continue on privately or drop it. The fact that you made the conversation public is very sad. Your comments in the first place were also pretty sad. Why did you have to turn to personal insults on the forum? That's just childish, it's not cool. |

Once again to set the record straight, he posted BOTH here and to my email address.
Let's have it one way or the other. If you post here I will respond here. If you post to my email address, and post here AT THE SAME TIME, I will cut and paste your letter and continue from there.
So I WASN'T given any "courtesy" as you put it. What is the answer to that?
I sent you a personal e-mail as well El Barto, but since you posted here, for everyone else to read, I must post here as well. |

Personal attacks are unwanted and unwarranted. As a perpetrator of personal attacks I must apologize.
Therefore, I am sorry for personally attacking Leon.
I am sure you are not a moron in real life.
However, this reminds me of the old saying,
Arguing on the internet is like racing in the special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded.

One thing, while I'll admit "bitchload" is in fact a pretty funny name to call someone, it still somehow isn't as ridiculous as "Itchload" is in the first place. So..it'd be calling someone who's name is "Assface" "Bassface" or some such thing. |

it's funny coz it's true...
Swimmer, I just emailed you coz I was pissed off that someone got the wrong end of the stick about my comments. Can't really believe that me emailing you directly pissed you off that much though. I mean, I wasn't all effing and blinding and telling your mother to go shit up a stick or anything. At the end of the day, we're all Frank Black and the Catholic fans, so obviously none of us can be that stupid.
I'm all for personal attacks if they're funny by the way.

This transaction gets funnier and funnier, though for varying reasons.
I will say that it's finally either degenerated or more likely upgraded to loftier commentary now, so good job, posting by moderator included.
Can't argue that for varying reasons, religion, politics, and terrorism in light of current events are volatile subjects, and in a forum where every comment is no better than an email void of particular inflections and context, this can only be more volatile.
So, if someone has a point....great... but I think the original post was in the spirit of "How can someone go on an international tour in light of recent worldly current events" or something of that nature. So, let's stick with the topic (which seems exhausted long ago, or not addressed properly perhaps) or make a new one regarding the non-relative resulting arguements.
As for the movie, I can't think of a movie that has a character named "Dane" in it, so, hard to say, but sounds like a back to the future thing. Timecop? Don't know, sounds silly though.

Ah...the Dane....is it from Hamlet?
Naw I know where it's from, the Coen brother's second finest, Miller's Crossing.
As for the original topic, given their name the Catholics probably won't be asked to play at any Orange marches. But everywhere else they should be safe. In fact it would be cool if they could play at half time when Celtic win the UEFA cup in a few weeks time ;)

Sorry, I'm not trying to be a pedantic twat here, but the only links between Iraq and Al-Qaeda is that they were both funded, armed and supported by America at some point in their existence. I'm not trying to bash America or say my country's better than anyone else's or anything, America rocks, I stayed there for 4 months and even though I was selling stuff door-to-door almost all folk were really friendly to me.
Like you say, it would be cool if Frank Black and the Catholics did a tour of Iraq - I heard that under Saddam the people were only allowed to listen to Nickelback and Limp Dogshit. Frank could take his rock'n'roll Americana and win the hearts, minds and ears of Iraqis better than anything else I can think of!
I totally agree that Whore With Disease is a cool name for this board (tho it would be a shit name for a prostitute - I mean who's going to get your $20, Whore With Disease or Nice Smelling First Timer?).
Cheers for the 5 points - how many do I need to get before I gain acceptance into the Eternal Kingdom of Heaven?

come on, let's try and keep this site sacred...we come here because of our respect and appreciation for frank's music, let's keep political messages out of here and in their proper place, ie. a news group, trashy aol/mainstream isp boards.....when frank releases a recently politically motivated song then maybe it might be acceptable............
