Dave, I've heard the Steinergers from Korea are to be avoided (I think they call them Spirit) I'm glad to see they're making new ones again. A year ago there was only one website for Steinbergers, now there are tons. I smell a revival . . . |

I own a telecaster. It's metallic blue.
One night, Frank and I got really shitfaced and he passed out early. I couldn't sleep because earlier that night, I dropped fifteen hits of acid. The only thing keeping me company was my Jazzmaster and the six Marshall stacks I keep in my living room. I took one look at the Jazzmaster, then at Frank's fat, snoring ass and again at the Jazzmaster. I decided that I have two options: 1. Sodomise Frank while he's sleeping or 2. Play a screaming solo and wake his sorry ass up. After exercising option #1, I had a cigarette, well, a couple cigarettes and then plugged in and tore Master of Puppets a new asshole. I looked at Frank and his ears were bleeding, so I walked over to my volume pedal and turned it up. Half way through the solo to Sweet Child O' Mine, I heard a loud grunt. I immediately stopped playing and went into fightin' mode. I heard that grunt before and knew that it only means one thing: Frank is pissed and he's looking for trouble. He was especially pissed that I played a GNR song since at the time, he still hadn't forgiven Slash for driving around his living room on a Harley, dripping oil all over the rug he picked up while touring Sudan. Anyway, I put down my Jazzmaster and waited for the fat fucker to jump me. Instead of going for me, he grabbed my Jazzmaster and fired it out the window. I ran downstairs to survey the damage and it didn't look pretty. I fifteen story fall turned my axe into mincemeat. It was destroyed so much that I haven't ever seen anything that destroyed before. Except when I saw these two black dudes playing dominoes on the street and the one guy really destroyed the other guy. He was really awesome at destroying people in dominoes. He was really fly and talked alot of jive and shit. Anyway, I was really pissed at Frank for wrecking my axe, so I went down the street, broke into his car and stole one of his Teles. I painted it metallic blue and scratched off the serial number. The funny thing is that Frank once borrowed it, used it on a bunch of songs and wanted to buy it, claining that it's the best guitar he's ever heard. |

Stratocaster with a home-made modification: put a retro Gibson P-90 in the bridge position. Like the Fender style rhythm and the growling lead stuff on the bridge (but not a humbucker growl so much as the P-90). For bass I like the old pre-57 style P-bass (aka Telebass?). Some class in those old things for sure.

$350 is pretty good for a brand new standard tele, you might want to look on ebay though. why buy new? it's easy to find a used tele in good condition for less. i paid $290 for mine, including shipping.
plus you have a broader choice of colours then! ;)
(ps - that $290 also included the hard case, an electric tuner, a bunch of picks, a string winder doodad and three spare sets of strings.) |

I'm assuming that it's a Mexican tele. I would say that a Mex tele probably isn't worth the cash. BUT, since it's your first guitar, then it sounds like it's the right one for you. If you have a few extra bucks, I hear that the Japanese is a good deal for the price - and you'll most likely be happy with it for as long as you play.. The Mexican will probably keep you happy for two or three years (depending on how much you play) Just a suggestion. By the way, I'm currently 'holding out' for an American.. Need to save for a while though...$$$

American Tele's are nearly indestructible, so getting one on EBay isn't that much of a gamble....as long as they actually send it to you of course! =) |

americans have a nicer sound but for a number of years, it's going to be your skill and not the guitar that's the problem. people who haven't been playing for a long time insisting you need an american don't know what they're talking about. |

So go mex? yeah at this point i prob. wouldnt even notice the difference between American and Mex being that i'm pretty new....but anyway, if i did look on ebay I wouldn't know whats the differences in the models of Telecasters, and I wouldnt know if the kind thats for sale is worth the bidding price that it is up to, you know what I mean? |

St. Francis,
I don't know if you're into strats, but this is a great deal and it looks pretty kick ass. The store's probably within driving distance of you...

I wanted to get a gibson les paul but then i'd have to sell my soul to satan to get that kind of money, so i gots me the epiphone/gibson lookalike instead. it sounds pretty bitchin' (for an untrained ear like mine) |

are telecasters better for "certain type of music" than other guitars. If so which type is it. cause the guy at sam ash told me telecaster isnt really a rock guitar and to go with a gibson epiphone |

Well, that's the gist of my joke, no guitar is for a particular music..
It'd be like saying rice is only for Chinese food. Not the best analogy, but hey! |

This is an old thread but what the hell.
I play a Jay Turser Dragon. Semi-hollow body. Nice sound. Acoustic-wise I play a twelve string made by Guild and a six string by Vantage (my first guitar...sounds like shit now after rolling the dice and getting the action lowered.)
I desperately want a Carter D-10 Pedal Steel. Someday, I swear, I will actually have three grand kicking around that I can just blow off on a guitar. |
