those are amazing songs. you're crazy!!!! no offense...
also, to the guy who said he didn't like california bound's religious message: it isn't pro-religion. i don't understand why this would bother you. and why do people get turned off by any mention of God or a god? that's just ridiculous. one album is called "devil's workshop", but no one gives a shit about that.

I agree with mdisanto about everyone disliking Skeleton Man. What gives? That song fucking rocks, and yes, it is a total blast to play on the guitar.

. Spartacus you've actually nominated a couple of my most loved tracks off Pistolero and DITS! I was a bit harsh on Taco though. |

I don't like Dog In The Sand too well 'cuz the main chord sequence was taken from the chorus of Steak 'n' Sabre. Also, Everybody Got The Beat is like a heavier Pixies track, to my ear. [Edit 1] |

the music for dog in the sand was written before steak'n'sabre. so, it would be the other way around. so now you must like SnS less. or not. your call.

no, i love St. Francis - i just think End of Miles sounds sorta typical - the reason i love FB&TCs is that all the songs have their own flavor and character to them, but i feel like end of miles doesn't have the unique thread that most other FB songs have. -Brian

Arrgh! Ya caught me at my own game. I still think Steak 'n' Sabre is better written, though. |

It's not your fault that you don't like rock music. Blame your parents, or something like that.

i actually really liked the fields of marigold when i firts heard devil's - however it's probably one of his weakest on the album, with modern age, his kingly cave being the strongest |

haven't really got any that really bug me, there always seems to be something in every song that makes it worthwhile listening too.......
as far as religious overtones go in manitoba, that shouldn't come in to how good/bad the song is surely (i'm not religious at all) .... take jeff buckley's cover of "hallejuah" that's a fantastic song, religious overtones or not.

After seeing this thread grow for the past little while we should tabulate the most mentioned songs and create a worst of CD.
I bet:
A) It is better than anything (pretty much) released on a major label this year.
and
B) The song you hated will magically become good almost for no reason.
Case in point, I woke up in the night and Blast Off was playing and for some reason I couldn't figure out why I didn't like it to begin with.

Great Point St. Francis.
Especially B. I can't tell you how many times I am not into a Frank song and then all of a sudden it just completely clicks with me. I would say the majority of the time his songs have to grow on me. That is why they never get old.
Once again great insight.

I'll preface this with saying that no artist's work will be 100% all the time, and no two people will agree on what the best and worst work will be, but for me the ones I could have done without were:
FB: NONE. TOTY: Fiddle Riddle. COR: NONE. FB&C: King & Queen of Siam Pistolero: South Bay DITS: Stupid Me, The Swimmer, Llano Del Rio DW: Are You Headed My Way BLD: The Black Rider (track 1), Farewell Bend, Southbound Bevy, Whispering Weeds
The only one where I thought the brilliance was slipping a bit was in BLD, and in that one, maybe I'm just not a big fan of more of a blues influence? I dunno.
Nothing changes the fact that to me there is no more solid of a musician out there, period, both in creating the work and performing it.
Are they grey or is it my own nation? |
