Hey,
Okay, before anyone burns me in effigy or tags me as a Fank hater I have the following to say: I think Frank is amazing (especially considering several of the alternatives out there) and I generally enjoy most of his songs. Nevertheless, there are some songs for me -and there has to be a couple songs for you- which promote a race for the skip button on your remote...for me it's Blast off.
On with the dissent!

Hate to say it, especially because it hasn't even appeared on an album yet, but I almost immediatly did not like 'Manitoba' from first listen, and each of the shows that I saw in the past month it would downright irk me. Maybe its the religious overtones but I am planning skip it when it does appear on the next release. I also don't really like 'Hermaphroditos'. Its a great live song and it rocks, just not one of my favs. Sorry Frank! |

I'd agree with C30...i'm not too impressed with the new song, especially with the religerous overtone.
I like Hermaphroditos tho...heheh.. |

I'm not to fond of "Big Red". I mean it's OK, but probably my least favorite on Teenager of the Year.
Also, "Skeleton Man" doesn't do much for me.
I don't think i actually hate any Frank Black song. But there are definitely a couple songs that i would be fine without.

I also sort of agree with the religious understones in Manitoba, but i guess we should keep in mind Frank isn't very religious, so he might be singing from someone else's perspective, as he seems to do.
You're Such a Wire never did it for me. On the first couple of Catholics albums, some of the lighter songs (save for 85 Weeks which i think gets a good execution)don't totally work from with the production. For whatever reason, i like the sound of lighter songs on the more recent albums a lot more.
Also, i'm occasionally tempted to skip Tossed, but i rarely do. And "I don't wanna hurt you". But there isn't a Frank album that I dont listen to all the way through. I'd say his batting average is about .993 |

it's easier to do this per album.
FB: None TOTY: Fiddle Riddle COR: None FB&TC: I Gotta Move Pistolero: Skeleton Man DITS: Hermaphroditos BLD: Whispering Weeds DW: None
Out of all those, my least favorite is a tie between Hermaphroditos and Whispering Weeds.

I don't automatically apply the "religion" moniker to any mention of God. The concept of a god is so extra-religious to me, and I don't consider the Manitoba god whose face the subject has seen, to be somehow bound by religion.
However, even if the song had stylish lyrics proclaiming Jesus to be the Son of the Living God or something, I would pity you for not liking it for that reason. Sticking to such reasoning would prevent me (and I would venture to guess, a lot of people) from listening to a huge portion of the music I currently appreciate.

I agree with John. I tend to think of Dave Noisy/the forum as God at the moment. And My God, I have dearly paid. Well, I might if i ever get my act together to send a donation.
As for worst Frank track, it has to be Dance War. From previous postings it is clear that Frank isn't a fan of it anymore either. I didn't like Tossed greatly when I first heard it - but Hermaphroditos is awesome. |

I'm with Itchload - I really don't like You're Such A Wire. I actually skip nearly half of Pistolero when listening to it. Those who mentioned Blast Off & Whispering Weeds: you gotta be out of your minds.

'Brackish Boy', 'You Ain't Me', 'Do You Feel Bad About It?', and 'The Scene' immediately spring to mind. And I really like 'Dance War', thanks very much. |

I think that Frank might be speaking of the Aurora Borealis when he is speaking of seeing God's face. I do not think it has much to do with a set religion. I have a feeling that he (or the person he is singing about) has ever experienced the Nothern Lights and that is what captivated him. Just a hunch. Anyways the only song that I would not go out of my way to listen to would be Hate Me. Have no idea why, might have been hungover the first time listening to it or something. Brings back bad vibes.

I cannot believe I saw You Ain't Me, 666 and Skeleton Man in this post! I would have to say that I like all the songs and I rarely skip a track. And Malax how can you say you don't enjoy Cult of Ray? |

Without question, itÕs ÒDance WarÓ. And Manitoba? The reason I like Manitoba so much is because of the inclusion of God in the story. It makes the message of the song more profound and interesting (to me at least). And no, the song has nothing whatsoever to do with religion. But if it did...would the same bunch dislike ÒCain and AbelÓ, Ò666Ó, ÒJesus Was RightÓ, ÒNimrodÕs SonÓ, and a handful of other Pixies songs I canÕt quite name.
And by the way, anyone else notice how the acoustic version sounds almost exactly like a Johnny Cash song. (And I mean that as a compliment to Frank) |

GASP!! Dog in the Sand?? I want to cry. Also I can't believe Skeleton Man, 666, fiddle Riddle and Hermaphroditos are on here. Oh well. Let's see, the one's I can think of off the top of my head are: BLD: Whispering Weeds Workshop: The Modern Age Dang, there are others but my brain won't function right now.

the songs i dont like by frank are Fields of Marigold and 1826. They are ok but i have to be in a certain mood or else i dont really enjoy them, which is unlike his other stuff. Also the religeous stuff put me off a little in Manitoba just like it did California Bound, but for the same reason i like california bound, i like Manitoba. its so damn catchy. other than that, i never liked stormy weather from bossonova, the last 2 mins of that song drive me nuts.

Oh, I like Fields of Marigold! But, to each his own, obviously. I could do without 1826 and Manitoba like some of you guys already said.
I always thought Bullet was sort of Franks' Johnny Cash song.
Oh, and I love You Ain't Me!

1826 Bugs the hell out of me. I skip it EVERY time. I don't know if it's any worse than 666 or Skeleton Man, though. There's always gonna be some filler, but these three would have been better left off the albums altogether. -FranknWeezer |

the great thing about franks music is that it's all about everyone's unbiased opinion. He has no hit's on the radio so your not forced to like or dislike any particular song.

I like Manitoba but then again I am Canadian and any subtle geography for Americans is a good thing (Jepordy proves this). I was actually very surprised Frank named a song after a relatively forgotten province (well at least since the Jets moved to Pheonix).
As for the "God" reference think it is just an analogy for desire and shouldn't be taken literally.
Also agree with those who put 666 on the list...never was a fan of that and I could have done without the ear bleeding version he did on the last tour.

God! 1826! That song is absolutely amazing! Reminds me a lot of that 7 minutes song on Sticky Fingers. Fields Of Marigold - I can understand why some don't like it much, but I really love it. Maybe cuz I'm a Bowie fan and it sounds like Mott The Hoople's All The Young Dudes.

There aren't too many Frank songs that I don't like. I really don't care for 1826 and Franks cover of Sleep. Are you headed my way & Punk Rock City are okay and the lead guitar in Farewell Bend drives me crazy even though I like the song. |
