Hello everyone. It has been a while. Hope everyone is well. Who is lucky enough to be catching FB&C's throughout the states or our fair west coast and prairies here in Canada? Take care.

Well wonder no longer. I attempted to join the chat group you have going on yahoo, but I am in the middle of a move and do not have a computer up and running at my home for the moment. The firewall protection here at work eliminates the chance of chat groups. I have been busy. How have you been?

The defeat has definatley brought the Worthington Cup excitement to an abrupt end. I am guessing that this win will be talked about in Glaswegian pubs for hundreds of years to come. Or until the bhoys beat Rangers again. I would love to see them win it all and make up the six points on Rangers with their two matches in hand. Sorry it is getting difficult to type with the tears you have caused to happen once again. Thanks Andy.

I saw him in Boston in November - but it seems so long ago. I am greedy, I know! Am hoping he might add some more East Coast dates, Chicago is a little far for me. Come to me, Frank darling!! And I won't even mention McDave. Rrrowl. |

Oh, so jealous, Brian!!! If he sings "Gouge Away" think of me. It's my theme song lately.
Yay, there is life in the Henhouse - perhaps because Spring is here and it is time for FUN!? I am awaiting all your dirty Spring love stories. |

howdy all
last night i was at an impressive little bar called dee's cafe. for a really obnoxious section of pittsburgh, it was actually kinda cool. their jukebox was rocking weezer, the smiths, blondie, primus and old skool madonna. i was pleasantly surprised at the lack of limp bizkit and kid rock you usually hear at a pittsburgh bar. PLUS their pitchers were only $4.50 for the house beer, or $5.50 for any other kind! so after a long discussion with a friend about music, faith, sex and the physics of air raids, we hit up this diner and i got the worst food i've ever tasted. even drunk i knew this was shit. anywho, when i was in the men's room at the diner, scribbled on the urinal were the eternal words "rock out with your cock out." that gave me a good laugh.
i don't know why i burdened you all with that tale of my night, but why the hell not!
only a few hours till FB&TC!
have a good weekend folks

Hello henhouse! since y'all requested a review of the show, i copied the one i made for the shows section. hope you all had a pleasant weekend
Hey all
Just got back from the Pittsburgh show and it was excellent. First off, here's the set list
Where is my mind Bullet Cold heart of stone Los Angeles California Bound Gouge Away All My Ghosts Hermaphroditos Velvety Black Letter Day How you went so far New House of the Pope Goodbye Lorraine Whiskey in your shoes Holiday Song Jane, the Queen of Love Manitoba Southbound Bevy Robert Onion Helloise Nimrod's Son Mr. Grieves Cactus Men in Black Cracity Jones I want rock and roll ------------------------------- monkey gone to heaven nadine new song (dave phillips told me its the translation of "central region" in french, something like muscaf centrale, it has the lyrics "hills of central france") black rider
the band sounded GREAT tonight. last time i saw frank i was in the front, but this time i was hanging back to get better sound, and it was well worth it. unfortunately, there was a pink floyd cover band next door at the ajoined club who brought in way more people than FB, which is totally lame. the bennies and david lovering were their usual good selves. after the show frank kept saying he'd sign autographs once the bus was loaded, but there were two very drunk women being VERY obnoxious screaming "FRANK YOU ASSHOLE!" and stuff like that, so alas, the man never came out. But, i met/hung out with some really really cool people and the show was excellent.

Frank, you asshole. What a couple of complete and utter arses. What was the highlight Brian, or were there too many to mention? |

for me? the highlight was either gouge away (i think the catholics version tears apart the pixies version EXCEPT i wish during the last chrous someone would give that kim deal-ish scream) or men in black/crackity jones/i want rock and roll - that three song set just tore it up
a few other cool notes, at one point david lovering's gear wasn't working, so for about 5 minutes he did a "pixies" Q&A. he said his fav. song to drum was tame, he sang a little bit of "la la love you," he said he still talks to kim deal (and some asshole asked if frank did, which david responds "yeah, i think so, we're all ok now"), he said joey santiago is a new father and is still doing tv/movie music, he enjoyed touring with throwing muses, and when they opened for U2 he never saw a full U2 show. the same two drunken, large AND in charge, OBNOXIOUS women were right up front the whole show, and at one point Mr. Lovering says "can any of you guess what my favorite hobby is?" and the brunnete one screams "MASTURBATION!!!!" You could tell Dave was used to this, he handled it like a pro. Then he called the blonde one up on stage and had her participate in his experiments. Dave also has new T-shirts for sale and signed photos.
Everyone i spoke to at the show really enjoyed the Bennies and DL and were blown away by the Catholics.
One final note, i was talking to these two gents who are both FB's age, and they were saying how their wives don't like FB, but they came tonight just for them. It turns out the two wives were the drunken hooligans. it turns out, THEY didn't want to meet FB, they wanted their husbands to meet him. They apparently thought that if they kept saying FRANK!!!!! or shaking the tour bus, or then saying FRANK BLACK IS STUPID or FRANK YOU ASSHOLE that it would get him to come out. At one point, the blonde pissed behind a car and wound up getting it all over her pants. I felt really bad for their husbands, who were super nice, polite, smart and long time FB fans who lost their chance of meeting him because their wives can't handle their liquor properly. But, after over an hour of waiting, dave p came out to smoke a cig and make a phone call, when he told us that FB was asleep and that the whole band was avoiding those two drunken fools.
still, a GREAT show

Holy crap! Sounds like a great show, Brian. Sucks that the aftershow was marred by those drunken hags.
I love your graffiti story. My fave (and I may have posted this elsewhere so just ignore me if you've heard it) bathroom scribbling is something that I saw in Little Rock in high school. Some poor soul had scratched "My mother made me a homosexual" into the paint of the stall door. Weeks later, someone wrote underneath it: "If I buy her the material, would she make me one too?"
Hope y'all had a good weekend. I have had a long, dull weekend full of in-laws and fried food. I am in physical pain (lard poisoning, I'm sure) and must go drink beer until I recover. Cheers! |

That show sounded great. Thanks for the update. How many people do you think were at the show. Hard to believe that a Pink Floyd cover band drew a bigger crowd!?

i really have no idea how many people were there, but it couldn't have been too close to the 1100 person occupancy limit. if i HAD to guess i'd say 500-700
an update on the pink floyd cover band thing, apparently the big fuss was that they were playing Dark Side of the Moon while showing the Wizard of Oz - which still doesn't explain the HUGE crowd - and i mean HUGE. that show started at 8, and FB started around 8 as well (it was advertised 8:30 but they added the Bennies late) - so at around 6:30 when i got to the venue there were literally 25 people in line for FB and about 500 in line for "the machine." people kept accidentally getting into the FB line thinking it was the machine line. i ran into a guy i work with and i says to hi i says "i didn't know you like frank black?!" to which he replied, "who? where's the machine playing?" when the doors opened about 20 people came into the wrong club and had to be turned around. then, pre-show, when the sound guy was showing us the exits to the club (i think because of the Rhode Island incident this will be happening a lot more often) he even said "if you're here to see the machine, you are in the wrong room."

In an alternate dimension, the Floyd cover band would play the entirety of Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, while the Catholics would be playing at a totally sold-out stadium down the street, the performance taped for an MTV broadcast. |

Heh-heh. That's my kind of dimension. Anyway, it would certainly be an improvement over MTV's round-the-clock media coverage of Christina Aguilera's cervix. |

I get the feeling we are linked by a love of Frank Black and hay fever. I too am a sufferer (not of being a FB fan). I think we should conduct an epidemiological study to see whether there is an association between the two. |
