Mostly we'll be doing a history/lit. kinda thing, from 1800 to present. We'll read about 30 plays and a lot of history. I wish I could teach something less exhausting like acting or scene painting. At least I'll get to use my heretofore useless master's degree. Woo-hoo!

At least there is hope for history student's like me. Would love to use some of those goods to get some quid... My writing is not that bad I just was a procrastinator and slow... my marks turned out good even though my assignments were often late... presentations though super easy...

What periods did you look into for this course? Perhaps I can help you on the lit/historical angle? French revolutionary propaganda art/theatre is rather interesting...

Ah well goodnight/evening/morning all. The 40 hour mark approaches so i'd best go collapse. Its been a very productive day; got a complete ballache piece of work out of the way; got lent all of my mate's guitar equipment indefinately; going back home to cornwall tomorrow to spend more time with 'er indoors for a day or two; and i'm getting better at darts.
I shall leave you teacher peoples to it. Speak to you soon i'm sure,
Steve

We're starting just post-Revolution when the Romantics upset all the Neoclassicists. Then you get a whole century where melodrama is the dominant art form. (Consequently there are very few plays from this period that are of lasting dramatic merit--least til the 1880's. Anybody for a revival of Uncle Tom's Cabin. Eeek!)

Feeling sleepy yet, Steve? ;- )

Which rev? the French? Makes sense given the neo-classical lit movement through rousseau et al... then you got the drama of the Napoleonic war and then I guess melodrama of the english industrial revolution... Bronte's are the spawn of Rousseau strange...

Yep, French Revolution. Fun post-rev boulevard theatre scene. Like theatre combined with fairground freak show.

Oh no, it's not boring to me--I didn't mean that! I'm just out of steam for today and fast becoming witless.

Plus a small person keeps climbing me and trying to lick my face. Very distracting!

Have a good one, fellers.

I love the word crampons.

Sarah, we were in a mirrored dance hall as well. At one point I thought "that uncoordinated bastard/dolphin looks like - oh, it is me". The guy taking the class had a permanent smirk on his face, I wonder why?

Thanks for the note Barry, will respond.

Morning all.

Back to work. Finally talked to the motard last night. I wanted to talk to him in person, but he wouldn't even come over. He lives a block away, mind you. So, phooey on that coward. I told him I didn't think I could be friends with him and I guess that is that.

Don't have much else to say today.

XXX, Em *feeling a bit blue*

Sorry to hear you are down Em, but I think that you did the right thing, and can move forward now - this way true happiness lies.

Yeah, I just want to get that first day over with already. I'm contemplating using my old stage trick of simply not wearing my glasses--what you can't see can't scare you. : ) Went in yesterday and got my key and talked my predecessor into letting me use his office for the term.

Speaking of mirrored rooms, the room I teach in is the theatre's green room, so it's mirrored on three sides. Who the hell wants to teach in a gigantic three-way mirror?

By the use of more mirrors you could theoretically teach from outside the room.

If there are that many mirrors I would not wear my glasses. But remember, they cannot see your rear!

Well, at least that's a comfort.

I should have Bob work on a satellite feed for that room so that I can just teach from a remote location.

My child is asking for breakfast. So unreasonable. ; )

I wouldn't. Rampant Bob would forget you were teaching from home, and ravage you in the style of Johnny Weissmuller to the great amusement of your students. You would then have to incorporate the influence of Tarzan films on restoration comedy in a vain attempt to redeem yourself.

Yes, all of Saturday was great. After the dance class we went to the museum - C dressed up as Mary Queen of Scots, and thankfully was allowed to keep her head. After that is was on for a meal and drinks - had to leave early, but still good fun.

Sounds lovely. Glad she didn't lose her little head. :-)

My mother is a Stuart (weird spelling, though--Steuart) and forever exhausting me with tales of her one trip to Scotland (circa 1971) and how we're directly descended from Mary Queen of Scots. She's so crazy. I still have the teeny tiny kilt she brought me--would probably fit Z now.

Now if she comes over she can go to the Museum and dress up as Mary! The Mary Queen of Scots industry here is very crazy. Every historical building you visit claims to have a bed used by Mary, a commode used by Mary... no-one could have crapped that much.

Hahaha! What I wouldn't give for pictures of my mother dressed up as Mary! Perhaps on a commode? I'm just kidding, I adore my mom but she's a wacky lady.

I've assured her that the only thing we're descended from is Texas dirt farmers, melancholy school teachers and crazy hillfolk.

Have a good one, Andy. I'm off to the library (or as we like to say around here, "li-berry.") There will be hell to pay if Z misses Story Time today--I'll never hear the end of it.

Hi all you lovely people that I miss so much,

Gosh Em, I'm so sorry about what happened. I'm in such an emotional mess of a mood these days that I'm sitting here and tears are welling up with so much empathy for you. But I think Sarah is right, now you can move on. Just be easy on yourself and ride the wave. It'll be tough but you'll hang on and come through a champ. I know it... remember I've been there too, recently, so I know what it's all about. It sucks, it hurts, I cried for days, DAYS! I know you were holding on to a little hope there, and it's no fun to have that last shread of hope yanked from your hands, and heart.

Love,
Zan
