Mornin' folks. Doesn't sound like anyone's dangerously hung-over. (Proof we're getting older . . .) I think I was asleep by 1:00. But, miracle of miracles, even the kid slept until 10:30. Glad you're feeling better, Mike.
Husband just informed me that he's killed the first roach of the New Year. Ewww! Should I interpret this portentously? Or just call the exterminator?

Hello again,
Back onto the computer yippy. I think I am fully better now but I have to burn my sheets or something... man was I sick. Caught the Norwalk virus (psudo-ebola) and lost about 10 pounds... sorry if this sounded gross. Anyhow, just playing guitar today and doing laundry... got Debaser dead on...my bar chords are improving :0)

Oh man, there's nothing more demoralizing than a stomach virus. I'd rather go through unmedicated labor again than camp out in the bathroom for three days with some sort of gastro-intestinal distress. You have my sympathies. Glad you're rocking out again. |

Didn't think you would want to hear about food, but since you asked: black-eyed peas w/ham, cornbread, collard greens, and sweet potato pie. In this region of the country, you eat black-eyed peas on New Year's day so you'll have good luck all year. When I lived in the midwest, my friends had never heard of this and acted like it was voodoo or something. |

If you sacrificed the Black eye peas on the Front Lawn then that would be voodoo but normal cooking is fine. What are Collard greens? Well apart from Soul Food?
Hey if I have eaten at Bob Evan's does that make me a Psudo-Southerner? I am from the South... Southern Ontario!!

Yeah, we'll claim you, Brother Francis! Collard greens are a leafy green plant-- tough and fairly inedible unless you boil them forever. With bacon. Mmmm. Also similar to mustard greens and turnip greens (which I guess are the leaves of the turnip plant). You could use spinach, too. I think most soul food has its roots in poor people learning to make do with what they have. Very tasty, though. |

Yes,
Heard poverty is the root of soul food... read that in a book about music of all places... Rocking in Time by Stephen Szatmy... was the text for the mother of all bird courses while at Uni... Music in Popular culture. Was fun... Thursdays where we listened to tunes and then hit the bar... ahh Uni...

Oh that sounds fun! I once had a class where we spent half the term on Woody Guthrie. If only we could stay in school forever . . .
Well, I'm off for now, mister. Have fun with your tunes. My 15 year-old sister got a Strat for xmas--I'm so jealous. Guitar is next on my learn-to-do list (along with gardening. I swear my thumb is black.) |

We are so popular our first foot did not arrive until 5pm! There was no black bun or whisky, but we all shared a rather tasty curry. And he was not tall, dark and handsome! |

Hey all,
Happy 03'! It came okay in Boston...I was home with a friend watching the ball droop...I mean, DROP. I got a little teary too, Zan; I suddenly enjoy it all for that one minute after midnight and then I am like "feh" once again. Cynical cynical me!
Today felt like a good start to the year, visited with my friends and their 3 year old twin girls and 7 year old son. Got my first kisses of the year from them! Sweeties!
Now I am drinking wine and cursing the fact that the drummer boy lives 10 houses away from me...it's very hard not to show up over there and attack him - in good and bad ways.
Hope everyone elses 2003's are rolling along nicely so far. Bump, bump, crash! XXX, Em |

Drumrolls are lovely, as long as something FOLLOWS them, which in my case does not seem to be happening.

Oh, forgot to say in my earlier message that last night I had a dream about the Henhouse. And not THAT kind of dream....just that we all met at some kind of 'Frank Black Forum party' and the Henhouse was mentioned as being the cool place to hang. Yes, I drempt this - I am a nerd! |

Hmmm...very interesting. I also had a dream that my father was driving a car on my street (and I was on the sidewalk) and he hit this little old woman. Now THAT too sounds like a dream for Freud. |

Indeed... Not really too well versed in Freudian Dream interpretation... Mirvian would be something along the line of "St. Francis you are a fag and would like to get hammered in the bathroom at 3 am by the New England Patriots defensive line... that's what that dream was about".
Actually you dream sounds neat.

Okay, here's a question not dream related; if you guys had a friend who was upset with you would you want to know or would you want to remain oblivious and have that friend act like everything was fine?
This is my wine induced query of the day. |

You have to know... when there is the air of everything is fine but it isn't then that is bad. Just my opinion, but, if someone is mad at me or vis versa I would rather have it out instantly...

Yeah, me too - but it is almost harder to be the one who is upset then the one who is suddenly blindsided. I guess I feel like I will rock the boat too much, and then I will have guilt about that.
Perhaps too deep for the Henhouse, but I am scared to get off line right now for fear I will be completly compelled to make that phone call. |
