Since no one would answer me on the F.A.Q. thread, please spare a moment for a newbie: what are the different titles for under the user names on the left column (such as *Dog in the Sand*) and how does a poster achieve them?
T.I.A.
Are they grey or is it my own nation? |

Sorry, maninblack. Okay, as near as I can tell, here's the deal: You're an "FB Fan" until you hit 50 posts at which point you get a "Cult of Ray" designation. At 100 posts, you become a "Dog in the Sand." A few folks who run the site or perform various duties have actual titles--see the biography section. So far, I think it's Zanni67 (bio elf), El Barto (modulator), ProverbialCereal (FB Tabmaster), Gibbo (sorry, forgot the title), and Dave Noisy (Minister of Chaos) who runs the whole shebang. I will soon get to join the hallowed ranks as well for assembling the FAQ. I'll have to give it a little thought as to the title.
Hope this helps and happy holidays. |

I think Santa brought me a virus--I woke up with two degrees of fever and I feel like my head is full of sand. Waah. Had a typical xmas with my post-nuclear family: my mom, my dad, my step-mother, my step-mother's boyfriend (!?!). . . I got legit copies of DW and BLD--I had previously had promo copies and a bad conscience. My mother (who will be 77 next week) insisted that we listen to them. She thought it sounded alright. ("Better than your sister and that old Dave Matthews!") Hee-hee! |

Poor Sarah. I like the sound of your family! I mostly got booze and books. I have just started the Steve Earle biography, I like this quote: 'If I'd known I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself'. |

That Steve Earle is a mess, isn't he? Booze and books sound pretty good to me. I got large amounts of terrifying food--fruitcakes and homemade, slightly burnt candy, lumpy loaves of bread . . . the sad thing is that I'll probably eat it all, repulsive though it be. I think my parents are getting too old to manufacture edible food gifts. Whatever happened to the lovely gift of money? |

He seems remarkably together now, all things considered. Another quote from his past (I think he belongs in the henhouse): 'I was balancing on a wall about 12 feet above 17th Avenue in front of this house. I had a dispenser of nitrous oxide in one hand and a bottle of tequila with 16 hits of LSD dissolved in it in the other, and a joint about a foot long in my mouth and everybody was out there cheering me on and Cynthia got out of this cab and looked up and it was love at first sight.' |

some tw*t broke the news to me to me today that that old bastard Santa didn't exist..... I reckon its a conspiracy theory..... he's just had one too many beverages on his present run and has been arrested for being under the influence whilst behind the reins..... that and the fact that Rudolf is a self confessed crack addict..... |

Oh, my lord, that's funny! Ah, young love. Ain't it grand? :-) Welcome to the Henhouse, Steve Earle! Well, Andy, I'm giving up and shuffling back to bed where my loved ones will ply me with herb tea and Simpsons reruns. Happy Boxing Day!

Ok, the last comment was directed to Andy, but you're funny too, Stuart! I once saw a one-act play entitled "The Eight " wherein each of the reindeer delivered a monologue about the psycho-sexual abuse they'd endured at the hands of a drunken, drug-addicted Santa. So, right on! |

Hey guys! Everybody recovering nicely? Em, the awful food is almost gone, and my mate doesn't look like he's feeling too well . . . gee, d'ya think there's a connection? Hope you get that drummer boy!
Stuart, my bed is ridiculously large, and my family uncommonly subservient. Lucky me!
Zan, did the girls have a happy xmas? |

Hi everyone,
Sarah, I'm glad you are feeling better but sorry to hear that hubby isn't doing well now! Hope everyone is well again VERY soon!!
Rebecca and Erin had a really good xmas, thanks for asking. It's always a joy to see them open their gifts. The funniest moment was when Erin opened her 'Disney Pop Dreamer' doll, which is a girl with a guitar that she was dying to get (I think she thinks that I'm like the doll since I play guitar, but the doll is like 17 and a size 0!... um, unlike mommy!!). Anyway, she says "OOOOHHH I really wanted this", (jumps up and down), and then adds "What is it??" Too funny... how about Zelda?? I'm sure Santa was very good to her!
I'm crossing my fingers for you Em, maybe the end of 2002 will bring you every joy you've dreamed of. Kind of a bummer for McDave tho, I mean if you're unavailable by the next tour... oh well...
See y'all later, Zan P.S. St Francis where are you?? Hopefully we can be on at the same time eventually!

Haha! "What is it?" Kids are the best. Glad they had a good time, Zan. Zelda had a great day (she got many dinosaur-related gifts), but the stimulus overload kicked in at bedtime and she had a complete meltdown. (It took her a full minute to sob out the words,"But-I'm-worried-that-if-I-go-to-bed-I'll-never-get-to-play-my-Green- Eggs-and-Ham-Game-AGAIN!!!" Sad but hilarious.) I think the fact that she had consumed almost nothing but chocolate coins all day didn't help. Once she gets a couple more "big girl" xmases under her belt, I'm sure that she'll handle the Christmas craziness like a pro. :-)

Thanks Sarah. Yeah, even the older ones have meltdowns, believe me! I had one myself by 8pm Christmas night!! Too much family dysfunctionality (is that even a word???) But then I had a couple of drinks and went snowmobiling and felt SOOOOO much better. Ok, hmmm, drinking and snowmobiling doesn't exactly sound angelic. Oh well... it's all open fields around here, I swear! (And I'm a devil anyway so who cares!!)

Hmmm. Don't drink and snowmobile. Does your snowmobile also function as a pinball machine Zan? Hope the day was okay overall. Let us know re your drummer boy Em. remember - don't drink and queaf. Sarah - hope you are better. I am an uncle again today, just been to see the new addition - she is soooooo sweet. |

Ooh, snowmobiling! How 007! And a guitar! You're so cool, Zan. I have a violin and, like, a yoga mat that's gathering dust in the corner. ; )
Congratulations on the niece, Andy! I think that everyone has currently halted reproduction, but I sure wouldn't mind another niece. (Nephew to niece ratio is currently 5-2. Clearly, more girls are in order.) |

35 and cool, who'd of thought??!! Haha, thanks Sarah!! I remember when my mom was 35 and I thought that was SO OLD! Everything's relative I guess. I love my guitars, they can be my best friends at times. I know that sounds weird, but it's true. I love being a mom, but I also love having my own identity. Yoga is very cool, btw!
St Francis, ya out here tonight by chance??
I haven't experienced a snowmobiling romp yet, somehow the warmth of a pinball machine seems more inviting. But you never know, Andy!!
And yes, congrats on the niece Andy... how beautiful. My bro and sis-in-law just added their 3rd son on 9/26. It's fun to hold him and give him his bottle, but at this point in my life I'm glad to give him back to mom at the end of the day!! I'm done with babies. I'm working on a new puppy, and already I know he's gonna be a black lab named "Frank"!
Have a great nite all, Zan

Hey kids,
Nice to come on and read what is up with everyone. I am thankful to know such lovely people in such an interesting way. Sort of intimate, but also distant if you know what I mean. Thanks for the good words about the drummer boy too - I will keep you all posted. Send me good vibes as he is confused and he needs clarification about how cool I am. Zan can vouche for this!! I hope 2003 is good for all of us.
Zan, I am so jealous of the new puppy - when will you get him? Is it for sure? I have my cat but lately have been wishing for a baby SOMETHING - a little scary since I am 26 and single. Am I getting the fever?
Hope you're recovering from all the food, Miss Sarah. I know it can be overwhealming. Tonight we had a party and I think I had too many chocolate covered pretzels. Ugggghhh....
Congrats on the new little person, Andy! So lovely and makes this whole merry-go-round seem all the more worth while, yes?
Goodnight all, and happiness to you - you are good souls and I am glad to know you. XXX, Em |

Aw, thanks Em, you're such a sweetie. I'm sure your confused boy can see that. Dumb old boys. (No offense, Henhouse guys--you are all obviously Men. : P)
Nite guys. Gonna go watch many, many episodes of Sex and the City on DVD.
xoxo Sarah

Hey everyone! Yes, Em, I agree with Sarah, you are a sweetie and I think that he knows this already but is just scared. All boys are. No offense to any guys, really, it's just true, when you find a girl you like you just start acting all weird around us, and then we get confused and think you aren't interested, etc etc etc and we go around in this crazy circle until one of us has enough sense to just give in and admit that they are in love with the other. Ok, wow, that was one long sentence! Well, anyway, I'm sending good vibes your way Em.
Hmmm, yes those could be baby vibes you are feeling! I've had that feeling before, and I'm sure Sarah has too. As for puppy, I'm not totally sure yet but I'm working on it.
Hope everyone has a fabulous day! Thanks for the kind thoughts Em, I agree it has been nice getting to know all of you out here.
Later, Zan

Thanks, lovely girls. Sarah, enjoy your Sex and the City episodes - I own them all and got the new book about the show for Christmas, so I will be an expert...on a SHOW about Sex...ha ha.
We'll see what happens with the boy. Hope for the best, expect the worst as they say. I wish he wasn't so cluless, but he is damn cute and when he plays those drums - look out. Rrrooowwwl.
Happy day, to you's! I think we might go to the movies today - any suggestions? |
