I really enjoy this album. Most of the tracks i like far better than the album versions. Like Monkey Gone To Heaven, Subbacultcha, Manta Ray, Levitate Me etc... I think of this collection as almost a greatest hits collection.

The album clocks in about 35 minutes. They could have fit their entire BBC output on a single disc. Left off are incredible versions of Tame, Into The White, Wave of Mutilation, Palace of the Brine, Motorway to Roswell, Allison, Hang On to Your Ego, and a rough version of Velouria.

I wonder why they left off those tracks. Do you think they are saving them for a future release?

What are your thoughts on this album?

I love the album and love every version more than their official counterparts. I also find it rediculous that they didn't release all the alternate versions. Damn these short compilation albums.

God I love at the BBC! I first heard Is She Weird from At The BBC at a friends house and though wow this is the most powerful piece of music I've ever heard. I found out who this band with the shouty bloke were, and got into the pixies and Frank Black from there, so I guess it's responsible for shaping my musical tastes as they stand today.

The versions of the songs rock a lot harder than the very produced album versions. Is she weird, There goes my gun and subbacultcha are definately at their best on BBC.

Any ideas where to find versions of the other BBC songs they recorded?

Steve

The Rough Diamonds bootleg has all the versions on there...not in the greatest quality, though. Motorway to Roswell is great, and I think it reflects the earlier, alternate version of MTR that is most elusive.

Does anyone know how these were recorded? They aren't live because there are doublings, but there are also weird fuck ups. It seems like it was multi-tracked, but that they weren't allowed to do many takes during the overdubs.
