"Caught in the clubs: (...) Rich Gilbert & the Velvet Swingers at ZuZu!: Guitarist Gilbert has represented Boston proudly in such bands as Human Sexual Response, the Zulus, and Concussion Ensemble. He now tours with Pixies leader Frank Black, and is also with the Tarbox Ramblers (he'll join them Feb. 21 at T.T. the Bear's). And he still finds time to front his own side projects such as the Velvet Swingers, an all-instrumental, roots-swing outfit with pedal steel and a genre-hopping style that includes a snappy cover of Elvis Costello's "Oliver's Army." Gilbert is moving to Los Angeles soon, however, so the Velvet Swingers are probably done. His friends can barely believe it, but it could be a good career move."
