When I first heard SSMVGD, the one song that really stood out was His Kingly Cave, which I considered to be one of the best songs Frank ever recorded. When I hard that the song would be on Devil's Workshop, I was thrilled.

When I first heard the album, I was suprised to hear that it was a different version. While I like this version, I think the original is more powerful. How bout you guys?

I think I prefer the album version. Simply because it seems to fit so well and flow perfectly from song to song.

I like DW's version more. The mood and feel of that version is reason enough.

great question - i love the intro on DW but the keyboards on sunny... are brilliant. a hybrid of both (spot the scientist) would be sweet.

it takes two to lie marge - one to lie and one to listen.

I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about, but the DW version of the song misses the little counterpoint "DUH-duh-DUH-duh-DUH-duh-DUH-duh" that comes across as he sings "don't worry the posse won't shoot you" and such lines. Is this what you are referencing? Hauntingly good.

Did you notice the lyrics change a bit between the 2 versions? And indeed the new ones are better.

johndietzel, yes i know what you are talking about and that is a subtle difference that does make the sunny one cooler. i just like the way it sounds also. the guitar in the intro in the DW has this distortion behind it which doesnt sound as cool as the acoustic. I think this is becuase the acoustic serves as a greater contrast for when the song actually kicks in, with the DW version theres not as much of a difference between the intro and beggining of the first verse. Also the way Franks voice is seperated (hard to describe) in the DW version. It sounds not necessarily so much louder but it just doesnt really mesh with the music like it does in the other one. Granted had i never heard the other one i would be guarenteed to love the DW one becuase it still is a great song, but since it was one of my favorites on Sunny before i ever heard DW, ill always be partial to it, but for those above reasons.
