Thanks Big Galoof. Richly deserved - but I would have had Doolittle as number 1! |

Sonic youth does indeed rock. But number one is a little bit of an over statement. Black is superior to Thurston. Not by much though.

I dunno, Daydream Nation has always been my favorite album, though some of it is nostalgia. I'm in agreement that it's the best album of the 80's. Doolittle is definitely number 2 though, though i would not be in disagreement if it was no 1. For the record, Pitchfork's best of the 90's had 4 Black related albums, Frank Black, Teenager of the Year, Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde were all in the top 50, with Trompe being number 9 I think. Despite being snobby bastards, they know their classic albums. |

I know these lists cannot please everyone, and I guess they want people like me to get all miffed, but oh well.
Some of their choices were puzzling. Like "Disintegration" was the Cure's best from the 80s? Um, no. It was like 5th or 6th best, maybe (Behind "Head on the Door" AND "Japanese Whispers" AND "The Top" AND "3 Imaginary Boys" AND "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me" "Boys Don't Cry." And zero Siouxsie (right?). How about "Haeyna" or "Peepshow" or "Tinderbox." And no Lyle Lovett (I think). I also personally like "Fables of the Reconstruction" over both "Murmur" and "The Reckoning." Paul Simon's Graceland? Huh? And my wild card under the "I guess if it sold a few too many copies or was marketed a bit too slickly, then it cannot count" category: Billy Idol "Rebel Yell."
