i used to drive an 1983 Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint Veloce but don't drive anything anymore.

not too dissimilar to this one, except it was a limey green colour and had different and better wheels.

better view (except for those ugly yellow/orange lamps which i have never seen before)

most have, but the one i had, which my brother actually owns, is probably the finest example you'll find anywhere. must have been the new zealand weather.

and goddam, it was an awesome car.
i have never driven anything like it.
it's now done 250,000km without the engine ever being touched.

I'm being unfair to Italian cars of course but I do remember that the Dad of one of my friends at school had a Lancia Beta. (this would have been about 1983).

It was only about 4 or 5 years old but looked like it had been dredged up from the bottom of the sea. I swear that you could actually see it rusting before your eyes.

true.most italian 80's models had serious rust problems(and were pretty ugly too).but the alfasud is a classic.and benji i've seen a lot of alfasuds with the orange lamps.they were trendy at the time and helped with the fog since the xeon lamps weren't yet invented.

yep, rust in the death of almost all those cars....
but wasn't it cause they sourced the metal from russia - aka the lada?
or was that just someone pulling my leg?

maybe the suds weren't exported with those orange lamps - hence why i have never seen one.

I used to own one of these a few years ago:

A 1974 Triumph Dolomite Sprint. (Broadspeed modified)

It had an uprated engine, bigger wheels and a huge exhaust pipe. Went like the clappers (as did my heart). Sold it after I almost put it through the plate glass window of a Chinese takeaway restaurant.

Very very twitchy car. Deadly in the snow or heavy rain.

I had to sell my measly Civic so that I could qualify for a mortgage. Now I've inherited the 1983 Honda Accord that I learned to drive in ninth grade.

Damn floop, you had a Volvo 122? I had one for about half my life, from age 17 to 35. Mine was "golden yellow" (color code 84). Just sold it two years ago-- the end of a LONG love/hate (mostly love) relationship. I had to end it because I feared I'd have it for the rest of my life. I put about 250,000 miles on that car. I put an overdrive transmission in it, Weber carb, 240 series seats with headrests. Lots of memories. The back seat got a few good workouts when I was in my late teens, nudge nudge...

BLT, how much would you reckon a 122 would go for - in fairly good condition, maybe not showroom quality of course, but what's the general range, would ya say? I wouldn't ask ya, but I can't seem to find any for sale on the US market so far. I'm in love....also, someday, we want a '48 Roadmaster. That car is so alright, it's wrong and back again.
