The Pixies Warm-Up Tour Dates Officially Announced
Can you feel it? That little tingle in the air? It's kinda like a mix between that overwhelming sensory overload of Christmas morning blended with a bit of Easter magic. You'd be hard-pressed not to realize the undying significance and legacy of a band as important and lasting as The Pixies. The three young lads and a lady brought punk rock to a whole new level with their jittery pop songs. They were the band from the '80s you hoped no one else was listening to because damned if they weren't the finest fucking foursome around. Yeah you had problems with a couple songs, "Here Comes Your Man" seemed to be trying to hard to grasp that radio-friendly ring, but man those records still sound great. Yeah, Kim Deal did her thing with The Breeders. And yeah, Frank Black wrote a gazillion songs and released at least half that many records. One of them even became a magician.
But cancel all that, cause a new wave of mutilation has just entered the fray. The Pixies, as we've reported serveral times already, have decided to reunite, to join collectively and rid the world of horrid music. Sure, you've got your worries and your fears, but this is the fucking Pixies. The band has planned a short warm-up tour covering several areas way north, culminating in a special appearance at the Coachella Festival on May 1st. They will then paddle-boat to Europe to open for Anthony Kiedis and his band of merrymakers. Yes, the Pixies are opening. Sheesh. And then, kids, the Pixies are hitting Europe hard, playing shows in and around from the end of May until mid-July, which will hopefully then see them head back to the States.
Not only are The Pixies touring, they're also gonna be seeping their way into your unconscious with both a DVD highlighting every single Pixies video, as well as a new greatest hits collection entitled Wave of Mutilation. And in related news, Frank Black (aka not Matt Pinfield) will also be releasing a double album, Frank Black Francis, in April, which will coincide nicely with the manic brouhaha that will plague American shores as The Pixies ride into the night, with their loyal fans prancing like idiots in the distance behind them.
