The Pixies' reunion tour will kick off April 14 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, marking the group's first live appearance in over a decade. The alternative rock quartet is rehearsing in Southern California for the 11-date North American club trek, which will visit such unusual locales as Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Boise, Idaho. The run culminates in a May 1 appearance at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival.
From there, guitarist/vocalist Frank Black, bassist/vocalist Kim Deal, guitarist Joey Santiago and drummer David Lovering will head to Europe for a tour that will run from May 28 to July 10. The only confirmed dates at present are support slots for the Red Hot Chili Peppers on June 12 at Dublin's Phoenix Park and June 15 at Paris' Parc des Princes.
4AD/Beggars Banquet is also readying a retrospective CD tentatively titled "Wave of Mutilation" and the DVD "Pixies."
Here are the Pixies' North American tour dates:
April 14: Winnipeg, Manitoba (Burton Cummings Theatre) April 15: Regina, Saskatchewan (Doris Knight Ballroom) April 17: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (Prairieland) April 18: Edmonton, Alberta (Red's) April 19: Calgary, Alberta (MacEwan Hall) April 21: Victoria, British Columbia (Victoria Curling Club) April 22-23: Vancouver (Commodore Ballroom) April 24: Spokane, Wash. (Big Easy) April 25: Boise, Idaho (Big Easy) April 27: Eugene, Ore. (MacDonald Theatre) April 29: Davis, Calif. (Freeborn Hall) May 1: Indio, Calif. (Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival)
I guess one should keep their eye on Ticketmaster Canada's site for tickets...http://www.ticketmaster.ca/ |

Actually, looks like yours was posted first.
I resent being an "unusual locale". :)

I hope the weather's better this time. Though it couldn't really be worse than last year, I suppose.

Prediction: Saskatoon will take a bit longer than Brixton to sell out. |

So Winnipeg is the furthest east they will get. I would suspect that this suggests a more extensive non-Canadian North American tour after the Europe tour. Is there any information suggesting this, before I start making travel plans?

I imagine they'll make their way east after the warm up since there's a month or so between Coachella and their first European gig, but I don't know anything for certain or even as rumour. I have no doubt that all these shows will also be sell-outs.

Davis? Holy crap that's unbelievable. I can't believe they're coming to my little cow town. Now I have to figure out how to get tickets, perhaps I can bribe an undergrad to buy me tickets if they get first crack. |

Wow. Western Canada, lucky for them.........!
Very surprised about no T.O or Montreal shows. What an atypical Canadian tour.
Well, let`s see if I can get to Winnipeg in April.. |

Good idea.
I'm already making my travel arrangements. Looks like the show won't get in the way of my exams. |

I have heard that the reason that the tour is mostly in Canada because there are "rules" that apply when a band plays festivals like Coachella. Apparently a band may only play a certain number of shows in a given time within the states. |

Not within the States, just in a large radius around where Coachella takes place. To my knowledge, they can play the east coast before heading to Europe as well as central US. That's why they can play the Washington state shows still. It doesn't really hurt Coachella to have a band with a gig in Boston, for example.

seriously. If they could play the east coast before Europe, why arent there dates scheduled? Do they need some room to be flexible? I dont know. And it also seems like the large radius around cochella is where they can play? If so, its not that large. Now I'm complaining again...stupid me. |

They'll plug in a bunch of more dates. I can't see them NOT doing that.
