Just had to share my geeky radio moment -

I just joined a yahoo group for a talk show on a local radio station here in Columbus, OH, just to praise the guy, cause dammit, he plays Pixies and Breeders for almost every buffer in his show. So I thought I'd drop him a line about FBnet while I was at it. I got the post in several minutes before the show ended, and I'll be damned if they didn't play "Fu Manchu" as the closing song - first time for an FB song ever! First time I've ever heard that song on the radio! Woohooo!!! That just frickin' made my night. I know this is geeky and silly, but it's the first time I've ever gotten the nerve to contact a tv or radio station.

So....... while I'm on the topic, anybody have any embarrassing public behavior or geeky moments or accidents they care to share. Please?? I'm feeling kinda vulnerable now, heheh.

Here's my freakish geeky fanatical email for the court:

Thank you Boster. Your cynical sense of humor, laid back attitude,
your rapport with your producer, and your real personality with the
callers is SO refreshing. Glad you're back, man. By the way, your
buffer music is the best I've heard on commercial/talk radio in too
damn long. Breeders, Pixies - bless you, Curt! Heck, it may have been
somebody else on this one, but I could have sworn I heard a little
Social Distortion the other night. Is this the seventh seal, that 610
WTVN plays Pixies and Social D? If so, bring it on.

I caught the tail end of your comment tonight about the Pixies
reunion. Yeah, who knows where that's going. It would be a freakin'
miracle if they played anywhere near here. For what it's worth though,
if you're a Frank Black/Pixies fan, they're up to the minute and then
some at www.frankblack.net. Hell, the man himself turns up there every
once in a while. Disclaimer: I am not in any way affiliated with the
owner of that site. heheh ;) Man, do I sound like a geek. Well, I am a
daily listener - that should say it all really.

Good luck to ya!
Jennifer

Silly Jennifer. Umm....let me think of something really geeky...uh...I e-mailed John Vanderslice asking him if he liked the Pixies and Frank Black (and the Catholics) and recommended that he recorded a cover of his favorite Pixies song. Here's what he replied with:

"well, yes I am a monster fan of both. I agree that (covering my favorite Pixies song) would be killer. we’ll be in cleveland and southgate house in the spring. I’ll email you dates.
take care,
jv"

Hehe, added the bold and the unsaid stuff so you understood what he was responding to.

i've got a good one. it was about 10 years ago. it was sunday- father's day. i was hung over, after a heavy night of drinking, and lying on the couch watching much music- the rsvp show. so i thought i've never seen the headache video so maybe i'll call in. so i called (first time i ever called- seriously) and was surprised that someone actually picked up. i requested frank and the lady on the line says ya frank's pretty cool- we'll try to get it on. so i fell back to sleep on the couch, not thinking anything of it. the phone rang a half an hour later, waking me from my slumber, and it was bill wolichka from much and wanted to know if i wanted to be on the air in a minute to chit chat. i said for sure, not really believing it- i jammed a blank tape in the vcr and then started chatting with bill live on the air. u2 just played in winnipeg so he asked me if i saw the show. i say ya not bad- not really caring- just wanting to talk about frank. so then bill says you a frank black fan. and i say ya frank's awesome. bill chuckles and then says here's frank black's headache for my good buddy mike in winnipeg! i think i watched the video 50 times that day. i was pretty excited. i still got the tape and show my friends who have a good laugh. i also won a batman shirt for calling in but i never received it in the mail. fuckin much music. oh well, at least they played headache.

Yeah, I really enjoy Social D. I have my husband to thank for introducing me to 'em. He's the real fan in the household, truth be told. I agree "MLM" is terrific, but the self-titled has got some great tunes too. "Let it be me", [edit: or no no no "Story of My Life" is as beautiful as a maladjusted drunken youth love song can be. They do an incredible cover of "Ring of Fire" on that album as well, and "Ball and Chain" rocks too.

Speedy m- no worries! I don't give a baboon's patootie about goin off-topic . I ain't no thread-nazi.

Around 1996, I took part in a Pixies game on a French national station (Fun Radio). One of their DJs was a Pixies-FB fan (check out the ftp, the guy's name was Alvin, and FB screams "Come on Alvin" while playing "the Man who was too Loud"). So there was this game, there were 5 of us on the phone, and we had to answer questions like "what is FB's complete real name?" or "what was their first single?". Of course, I answered all these questions, and won a Pixies candle and a Video tape with interviews and some live recordings...I still have the candle on my chimney....
