About people only really using a small portion (10%) of their brain, I think.

Yeah, something like that, that humans only use 10% of their brain. It's also about Iggy Pop ("Tryin to be a guy who's hailing from Ann Arbor")...who knows if Iggy was ever a soda jerk, heh.

I've heard that the "humans only use 10% of their brain" thing is actually inaccurate, but a lot of people cite the flawed statistic anyway.
I'm not saying the song isn't about that statistic, by the way, just that it isn't entirely accurate as a statistic.

I've always kinda held that it's about some music-business shark.
Someone who is "just another ten percenter" and contributes nothing to the music.
Manipulative, lazy and greedy fraud.

Or not. I dunno.

I think it's mostly about Frank aspiring to be Iggy.

It's got a couple of cute little references, but I don't think it has any real lyrical battle plan at all.
Hand held shower nozzles are the demon enemy of the patriarch and should be destroyed. |

it's an iggy inspired song, obviously, yes.
ten percenter refers to the tips that the soda jerk lives on. i dunno if iggy was a soda jerk or not. |

I think it's just about Iggy and his crazy ways...perhaps Frank is identifying with his wackiness. Fu Manchu is supposedly a fictional tale about Lennon meeting Bowie in 60's London and telling him he resembles the 'criminal man of virtue', and that he should grow a cool Manchu moustache(occidentally tic-tac!) |

I've always thought that masturbation might play a part in this song's subject matter ("makin' jerk! And it's good!").
The song as a whole may not mean anything. The first few lines seem to go somwhere (clearly referencing the 10% brain usage theory -- 'my mind is like an ocean') and then it just starts to sound like wordplay. A lot of songs don't mean anything.
