Today's random song of the day is Bartholomew.
What do you think of it?
lyrics Bartholomew How’d you end up in the coffee? Bartholomew Were you going down in flames?
Was it a girl? And did I hear you call her softly? No, this world of lunacy made me insane
Once I lay beside a stream And I looked into it A dandelion next to me And then I blew it My life was scattered in the breeze
I lay me down Won’t you stop it with your talking? They closed the town Won’t you let me go to sleep? Bartholomew I’m sorry for my squawking Bartholomew I’ll let you go to sleep
And I will lay beside a stream And I’ll look into it A dandelion next to me And then I’ll blow it And watch it scatter in the breeze

didn't think much of it at first but now it's one of my fave from dw. Funny how some songs grow on you... (grow on? is that english?) |

Yes, you are correct in saying "grow on" in that sense. |

The lyrics are somehow very evocative and I get all sorts of great mental pictures in my head listening to this one. I agree that this one does grow on you and is definitely an 'A' on DW's report card.

I think it's too cheesy.

What is this song about? The coffee part confuses me. I like it though - it seems especially Frank Black and the Catholic-y somehow.

lame.
i liked this song the frst time i heard it, the opening drum kick with the "bartholomew.." just worked for me right off the bat. "how'd you end up in the coffee" is a line i can rarely resist singing myself. the twisting, almost snarling delivery works very well.
then it transitions into a kind of frivolous, happiness.
definitely one of my favs from dw. |

I think its a good song. I wasn't blown away when I first heard it, but it has definitely grown on me a great deal.
I like the way he sings "a dandelion next to me"
I also like the lead-guitar outro part
There is something about the chords in this song....the major/minor/augmented switches just sound really good to me. |

After hearing all of DW the first time, I ended up playing this one on a loop for like 20 minutes. A pure pop gem.

Same thing for me.
If I remember well, Frank wrote this song for a guy whose girlfriend had just dumped him. (Do I remember well?) |

Great fucking song. Pure Frank genuis. The subtle chord shifts change the mood dramatically. Bravo, Frankie. |

You aren't biased or anything are you?
Whoever said it was very Frank Black and The Catholic-y hit the nail on the head. |

I don't remember where I heard/read it, but I think "Bartholomew" was inspired, in part at least, by a homeless guy outside of a recording studio or something.
Good song. The "once I lay beside a stream" verse (would that be the bridge? I'm not sure) makes the song for me. |
