I love this album so much. Probably tied for first with the White Album when it comes to the Beatles. Just imagine in 40 years from now - it's going to be horrible. The "oldies" will be rap and nu-metal shit bands. Atleast Nirvana will be looked at as a legend...I hope that people learn to appreciate Charles' work with time. *sigh*

Anywho...yeah...listening to "I Want You/She's So Heavy"...love it!

Abbey Road is amazing. The first half has all the hits, the second half is one long amazing madley. I particularly love "Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End", and of course, the little closer. Just a superb album. I would say it's just a notch below the White Album for me, but tied with Sgt. Peppers for second. Thanks for bringing it up Crouton, puts a big smile on my mug.

I think the Pixies and Frank will be regarded much like bands such as the MC5 are now. People in the know love them, but they won't be getting played much on classic radio stations.

Basically alot like how they're regarded now

Apparently, I just created a new word: "madley". Which is like a crazy medley. Apparently. Use it wisely!

Hehe, Sgt. Peppers is next in line to be listened to right now. I'm actually happy so I thought I'd take advantage of my mood and listen to the Beatles. I'm glad it made you smile! Eeeexcellent..my happy scheme is working...buahahaha.

I am on a Beatles binge right now. Bought Let it Be Naked last month and Revolver this month. My oldest brother had ALL the Beatles so I was pretty much raised on it as a kid, but, I never went out and bought the albums until now. The non-radio cuts are the best. I love "Dig a pony" from Let it Be and "I'm only sleeping" from Revolver.

Where do you guys recommend I should go next from an album perspective? It was down to Abbey Road and Revolver when I bought Revolver, but, should I go white??

I say you should save your money and get both Abbey Road and the White Album at the same time and bask in their greatness.

Dallas, definitely. White Album. Of course, if you don't have Rubber Soul, you need that too.

Shit, there is no denying or hating. You need them all.

Speaking of album cuts, if you have never heard "Long Long Long" on the White Album, the most heart wrenching George song there is, you haven't heard anything yet.

I didn't mean to imply White Album BEFORE Abbey Road.

I couldn't choose anyway.

Goddess - you're right. I figured out that I was going to need them all about 15 minutes into Let it Be. I just want to have a little time with each one, because the deeper tracks are the ones that are really coming across as revelations.

I was going to do Abbey Road but now you guys have me thinking about doing the White Album next...

It's a double album so you got that going for you.

I think it's like on the white album, the Beatles defined all the different genres in one go.

There is rock and roll, metal, country, reggae, classical, sampling, unplugged, psychedelic, ALL OF IT.

I can give you specifics of each

Rock and Roll - Back in the USSR
Metal - Helter Skelter
Country - Rocky Racoon
Reggae - Ob la Di
Classical - Good Night
Sampling - Revolution 9
"unplugged" - Blackbird
Psychedelic - Glass Onion

ETC - give me a genre, it's on here.

GO. Go get it now and report back here.

trip-hop?

I would probably consider Rocky Raccoon more of a folk song than country

Ohh, abbey road. lovely lovely lovely.
I think my favs are white album and revolver.

I dontlike the idea of the let it be..naked thing.
I mean, dont get me wrong, i prefer those versions, but its just another way to take commited fans money. But then again, I would do the same thing if i were him.

I guess it was worth it for some people, and its nice to have the chance to hear it, and see how it sounded...I dunno. Maybe its justr im poor and bitter. lol

I love Abbey Road, it would have to be one of my favorite Beatles album, if not my favorite...I think my fav is Magical Mystery Tour (I always vote for the underdog). I don't like the White Album as much; I have a thing against double albums or REALLY LONG albums.

MY GOD!
News flash!
Some thing we disagree on!!!!!
I knew theyd be something eventually...and its music...oh no! haha. AH well, we can have lots of arguements over them.

Just kidding, I see what you mean about the double album thing. I mena an album should make an impact...rather than just go on and on...ends up as more background music that way.
Still love it tho

Yeah, I've made my distaste for TOTY very clear in many a post. There's just too much damn music. I love music you know, but an album to me is an experience in a way, not so much a compilation of tunes. When you have 20+ songs together, it doesn't feel like there's any sort of focus or direction or quality control, it's more or less "here's what we recorded over the past few months...enjoy." That's just the vision I get when I think of these neverending albums. The ratio of "eh" songs to "yes!" songs is too much.

Another reason why I don't like the White Album as much is because it was so hyped up before I ever listened to it...so many people told me it was their best album, so I expected a lot out of it.

You know, with the Beatles, none of them is their best album. All of them are the best album. You have to experience them in stages. You have to learn to appreciate where they were at the time to get it, you know.

Just got Revolver. That is an amazing album. then the White album I think. Just listened to Abbey Road again the other day and I really wasn't nearly as impressed as with some of their other albums. I'll have to go listen again and get back to you.

When your done getting all of the Beatles albums, go get Paul and Linda McCartney's Ram and George Harrison's All Things Must Pass. Those are 2 outstanding albums.

I'm not too keen on most of the Paul songs on the white album. Most of the John and George songs are outstanding, though.

As for Pepper, my father played it too much when I was a kid in the early '70s. Plus it suffers from a lack of George songs, and he was always my favorite Beatle.

Abbey Road is probably my fave Beatles album though. It's lean and mean and utterly bursting at the seams with great songs. George Martin was awesome-- the production is outstanding. It was a hell of a way to go out. They knew it was the end and they did it right.

So hard to choose. Id say Revolver and Magical are my favorites. And you'd have to include a handful of singles that aren't on the lp releases (depending on which release you have) like Rain, Inner Light, Lady Madonna, etc. Also, don't overlook Yellow Sub because it has It's all too much, and uhh....whatever the hell that one song is called.

Abbey Road is my favorite Beatles album, eclipsed only by the White Album (due to its size alone).
