Star Trek was my favorite series in the '70s. As a 10-year-old, I lived and breathed it.
I watched The Young Ones on MTV in the '80s. I don't find the show as funny as I did then, but the musical appearances were great-- The Damned, Motorhead, Madness... fun stuff.
Red Dwarf is one of the funniest shows ever. I can't wait for the 3rd and 4th series to be released on DVD soon.

haha, Red Dwarf was great. Series 2 sucked a bit though.
I LOVE young ones. I love rik mayal and ad edmundson in general. hehe, yeah, the bands they got on were so cool. You know when a flash appears acroos the screen in a YO episode? Well pause that flash, and you will see a random image - like a tap dripping. hahaha. or something like that. very funny if watching while drunk/stoned. heh

I'm confused - by the topic wording and symbology, it looks like you are asking about a specific Red Dwarf episode that mixed "The Young Ones" up with "Star Trek", and i have to admit, I haven't caught that particular oddity. Forgive me if I am being a dullard - I'm working on my second cup of coffee.

I just meant I thought Red Dwarf as a show was a good mix of The Young Ones mixed with Star Trek. It had the sci fi thing down but was hilarious.
I have only seen tapes taped off PBS from my uncle, but I'd love the DVDs. I don't know which series is which. He just had random ones on tape.
I liked the one where they were trying to get Crichton to say Smeghead and he couldn't quite get it.
The characters are great.
The young ones was a staple off MTV for me in High School. And yes, I discovered the subliminal pictures back then with the pause and frame advance on the VCR. I saw the faucet, there was skiing, a frog jumping off a leaf etc.
Madness, Motorhead and The Damned and Dexy's midnight Runners and Rip Rig and Panic...it was awesome. I loved how there wasn't a stage and they'd just play wherever they were in the situation.
Special Patrol Group....he he.... |

Oh, yeah, I get it . All I can share with the class is that I love "The Young Ones". We bought the DVD "Every Stoopid Episode" and watched them all in about 2 1/2 days. It may even be funnier now than when I watched it on MTV.

Red Dwarf is great, maybe more 'Lost in Space' than 'Star Trek'...

Red Dwarf is shit...it had real potential when it first started, but it just turned into...shit. Holly is a total Blackadder rip off. There's supposedly a movie in the works, but I don't think the original cast are involved. |

I don't like the fancy retouching they've done with the old episodes. I liked them better when they looked cheap.
The movie has been in the works for a looooooooong time and I believe it included the real cast. Part of the derailing was the rape trial that Dave Lister was going through (not guilty).
You know they piloted a US version of Red Dwarf that included the guy who plays Kryton, but it never turned into anything.

I mean, the CHARACTOR of Blackadder, not the entire programme(!!!!)...his mannerisms, smart remarks, etc. |

I would disagree with you as well, Carl. I can see how the wide range of insults, and the 'extended simile' is borrowed from Blackadder, but I don't see Holly in that.
