For me, in order of tears produced...
1. Testament (what anguish! Gets me every time! It's maybe the saddest movie ever made!)
2. The Godfather Part III (no, not because it was a bad film (although it was, kinda), but because of Michael Corleone's reaction to his daughter being killed...ooops...spoiler)
3. Life Is Beautiful (these are more joy-based tears, but it's still a sad story)
4. Braveheart (despite how historically inaccurate the film is, the last scene where William Wallace sees his lost love as his guts are being ripped out is a major tear-jerker!)
So let's hear it...

From what I understand, "Testament" (1983, is this the one you're talking about?) is very much like "The Day After", which made me break down like no other movie ever has, the last time I saw it.

Correct! 10 points for you, apl4eris! The thing about Testament is that there are zero special effects, no mushroom clouds, no special makeup effects, just human emotions...which for me is the real deal! Not to say that The Day After was bad, but I prefer Testament.

Shawshank Redemption (When Brooks' letter is being read...how he misses Jake, his crow, how he has a bad job and buys bird feed in hopes that Jake will visit him..then just giving up and hangs himself...I cry everytime...so sad.)
Amelie (That bitch! Creating a false image of her "knight in shining armor" and throwing out the person who truly cared about her. This movie sickens me with all of the promiscuity and sexual references...it's not very good..It's just a prime example of superficiality and interpersonal manipulativeness. That's the main reason I only watched it once. Giving it such great review just because it is French and "artsy"...if it were made here it would be frowned upon. Stupid story.)
Apocolypse Now (Just the movie in it's entirety...the pure sickness all throughout.)
That's all I can think of right now.

How can you cry during the last scene of Braveheart? It is the most hilarious thing I saw in cinema since The Species 2.

When I was a little kid I imagined this story where I was a little dog abandoned by his master, wandering alone on these dirty, dark and cold streets, and then I started crying.
One day, this will be a movie. See, it is not out of topic.

i heard that originally the filmmaker used a Hole song in the film, so maybe that's it? i haven't seen a music video in about 20 years so i don't know..
this film was an academy award nominee for short film whenver it came out, i'm told. some time in the late 90's. remember that era? |

The end of Blade Runner is always a tear jerker for the sci-fi dorks.
Roy Baty: "I've...seen things, the likes of which you people can't imagine. Attacked ships off the shoulder of Orion. Watch sea-beams glitter in the darkness at Tenhouser Gate...all those moments...will be lost...like tears...in rain..." *dies*
I think the ending of "American Beauty" is really powerful, although the end song doesn't fit the mood right. It made me almost cry the first couple of times I saw it.
Parts of "Braveheart" made me almost cry, too, but my scene was the part where William Wallace is on the horse with the mace hidden behind his back. Then, in slo-mo, excrutiatingly dramatic, he bashes in the head of that one poor English soldier. That was fucking awesome.
I have to admit, I guess I'm a movie lover, because it doesn't just take sad things in movies to well up the tears. Drama, violence, and happy moments do it for me too, especially when I see movies in the theatre. And no, I don't sit there with tears streaming down my cheeks. But, I do get a lump in my throat at alot of movies and I have to bite my lip to keep the tears in check. I hate to say it but out of me and my wife, I am more liable to cry over a movie than she is.
Take me, break me, tell me a good one and maybe I'll cry

Being even more manly than floop, I don't cry at films neither, but the ones which come closest are: The Lion King Dead Poets Society
You can slate Robin Williams all you like, that is one deeply sad bit (you know if you've seen it, I don't want to spoil it).

Elephant man Jacob's Ladder Straight Story Full Metal Jacket (sure, it's a war film but, it doesn't attempt to explain why all of it is happening, but instead zeros in on living through it..) The last two lines of the film get me everytime.

Yeah, Of Mice And Men... I saw the first half when I was young and had to stop when they shoot the dog... And I don't even like dogs. The book made me cry a lot too. The last movie that made me cry (well, almost) was Dancer In The Dark. Strangely, it wasn't even a sad scene, it's the part when they sing in the factory, just at the beginning of the movie (the "Cvalda" song).

Come on, how could you cry during the Green Mile. Hey, it's Stephen King!
Didn't Holden Caulfield say something about people crying at the movies, in the Catcher in the Rye? Like, people who cry at the movies are complete jerks in real life.
Well I'm not saying you are real jerks, but I just don't understand how you can cry...especially if the movie is the Green Mile...
