Because he's mean !!!!!
But Black Francis is sooooo nice.
He says "c'est la vie" and takes another dive. |

If I heard people say that kinda shit about me and then approach me on the street. Well, you'd rather wished I had been mean... |

People often think I am bitchy but really I am just shy.
Anyway, in my Frank Black interaction he was a sweetie.

So in your hypothetical universe, Frank Black is an asshole. Nice of you to share that with us. |

Frank is not mean! The mean is average, and Frank is well above that!

I like that, and originally when people said one was "mean-spirited" they meant average, not whatever it has come to MEAN today (with this MEAN being yet another permutation on average). |

Why did you say he's mean in the topic if the one time you met him he was nice? |

Give the guy a break. Most interactions people have with him is while he's trying to work. He's not Britney getting off a plane with a bunch of handlers. Its just him and the guys. They need to get to the gig, set up their gear, get to the hotel, get something to eat, do a sound check, meet with the club people, make sure they get paid, do the show, load up their gear, hit the road, start again. He's busy and can't get tied up with niceties with everyone.
I did see him rebuke a couple of guys once, but they interrupted him while he was talking to a friend’s daughter. I once interrupted him just to shake his hand and say thanks and he tolerated me because I think my body language made it clear that I wasn't going to ask him to dinner. My best interaction with him was when, during a break at a solo show, he saddled up to the bar next to me, looked at me and said "How are you doing?" He was very nice. He then had a long talk with the guy I was sitting with because he knew Franks' cousin. Again, very nice.
I don’t particularly like talking to strangers. Do you? Maybe he’s just uncomfortable. Just enjoy his music, give him his space, and pick your spots when it’s appropriate to say hello. But don’t expect him to be able to drop everything and spend time with you. It’s not like your seated next to him on a plane. Your at a club full of his fans who all want a piece of him.
We are all just trying to get through our days. I think he is too.

Like anyone else, I'm sure he has introverted/extroverted moments. People are complex,3-dimensional, living, breathing organisms! You can't just say someone is THIS or THAT bacause of a brief encounter with them! |

He was a very polite guy when I met him. Dave Philips and Eric Feldman were really cool also. |

We all have our good days and we all have our bad days. He's allowed to do the same. I know how offsetting it is to have someone you admire immensely blow you off. He blew me off once, but 2 other times he was really cool.

Not me buddy boy - I'm pretty much a cynical dickhead all the time.
I never got to meet Frank, but I met Kim Deal once in a somewhat offbeat context - she was very unpretentious and pleasant at the time, but might have been a raging psychopath somewhere else (just so the bases are covered here)
I looked for a cult to join, then decided to just play "Sink". Hey! I sank WallaWalla Washington! |
