Listened to first solo album, Cult and first Catholics album in a row on me new discman the other night...anybody ever listen to a band's entire discography in one sitting? I'm sure some people do i.e Grateful Dead fans. This seems like a devoted/obsessive thing to me, but I guess if the mood takes you....

A couple years ago on a roadtrip to see Mr. FB we listened to everything (starting with Come On Pilgrim) all the way up to an advance copy of BLD/DW. Great, but a LOT of music to sit through. After that and then the b-sides were completed we didn't listen to anything (just a little classical) for the rest of the day.

Speaking of classical, a friend of mine has a lot of the old masters...Pachel Bell(is that how you spell it?)is a particular favorite of mine. |

I do that with Bob Dylan. Though, you can imagine how difficult that may be. I'll have three of four CD's of one of the 3-4 different era's at home, work, and for traveling. And then, of course, you have to rotate to the other three or four CD's from those eras. It takes a couple of months. It is very obsessive, but sometimes something just tells you it is necessary. Just the other day, I listened to DITS 7 times; just had to. What is music if you don't obsess over it? |

Dylan has such a vast catologue, you can really dip in and find something to suit your mood. A friend got me the 'Hard Rain' live album for Christmas...listened to it last night. I love the way they do 'Maggie's Farm' and 'Shelter'...saw him live a year or two ago, he was really rockin' out...plus Ron Wood joined him onstage! |

FB and the Catholics self titled album (the one with the bad gold artwork....oh wait, they ALL have bad artwork) is the only album i can listen too without skipping any songs. that does not necessarily make it the best album, though. I'd go with TOTY, FB, DITS, and FB&C as my top four (in that order). |

you gotta get some of those live mp3 thingies burnt to discs and mix it up with the studio discs, this allows the binge listening to expand into wider horizons.

I used to listen to Nirvana's discography + bootlegs and such on the anniversary of Kurt's death every year for a few years.

His death must've inspired a lot of people that way...he was an iconic figure who wrote personal stuff people could relate to.Actually, this year will be the tenth anniversary of his passing....and speaking of Nirvana, I gotta say one of my fave trax is 'On A Plain'. It's like their answer to REM's 'Pop Song `89'.

Getting a new album by a particular artist (including Frank) often makes me want to go back and listen to the rest of their albums, but I haven't gone on a listening binge for a particular artist in some time. I used to occasionally do something of the sort with Weird Al and They Might Be Giants, but that was back when I didn't own much else.

Currently on Sex Clark Five's second album, Battle of the Sex Clark Five.

I go on listening binges quite a bit.
Just crawling out from underneath a Kinks bender.
