This may have been answered as question was in October but Dave is from Rhode Island. I hung with him a little and heard his early bands. New Jersey, not even close. |

Did someone say he was from New Jersey? I think I missed that - which is amazing.
This is a random post - I need more information! (I think I will change that to my signature since it's all I seem to be saying lately).

I could have gotten the New Jersey thing wrong, am brand new member. His earliest band was very silly but they tried. They were all learning and played lots of hardcore very loud, which is the only way to play it. I remember listening to them in a summer house near the water. Those were the days. He has improved tremendously. And is a very nice guy, by the way. I still can't believe he is in the big time. |

Not yet, do you have band names and/or way of confirming or verifying them. I've been meaning to update these bios for about half a year...
Any other info you can offer that I might be able to verify would be great too.

Do any of these tours go to Hawaii? There is a serious lack of good music here. |

Yes, that's true (geography) but what about r&r for the band. The Breeders where supposed to come years ago for a big show and they did't, very sad. |

PS. Can you solve the mystery of how old Dave is? Some people said early 40's but that seems too old.

Dave is 40 or 39. He graduated from Bishop Hendricken High School, a boy's Catholic school in Warwick, RI. He was the cutest thing in high school, a little shy but funny. |

Has anyone heard of a ban dcalled S.W.I.L.? Dave has played in this band. It is an acronym for scroching when it lands. The others in the band are/where Bill Keough and MArk Cummins (a high school friend and brother-in-law). They have played in Providence but I'm not sure if they have played lately. |

Scroching? What? Is that a sex thing? A music thing?
Brother in law to whom?
I am so confused. I love this topic less. It is too mysterious.

Not a sex thing, a typo thing. His sister is married to Mark Cummins, a SWIL member. Sorry for the confusion. |

It's fine. I just like to have information and I got greedy. The scroching was mysterious, but I get it now. Sort of.
Am jealous you live in Hawaii, btw. It's 23 degrees here.

The bands that I heard where too early to even have a name, very informal and did't play anywhere except gaarages. SWIL is pretty recent. |

Can you answer this (because many, many girls would like the official word)... is Dave McCaffrey married?
Thanks. Nadine

This is what I found doing a simple web search. God bless the Internet. And the fact that I did not know about this is very sad! I live an hour from Providence!
The Providence Phoenix - 8/23/03 It’s been a long time since we’ve heard from Bill Keough, but one day he reappears, just like that! If you haven’t heard, Bill has at last come through on his threat to return to local music stages. While he spent the last couple of years away from the music biz, working at an association that represents long-term care facilities in Rhode Island, he still hasn’t been able to shake his intense love for The Rock. So he’s creeping out of retirement for a show at Jake’s this Saturday (the 23rd) with local heroines Betty Finn. His ensemble is not-so-affectionately-titled Scorching When It Lands, which goes by the handy acronym of S.W.I.L. Better than its name, the group features Dave McCaffrey, currently with Frank Black and the Catholics, on guitar/vocals, Mark Cummins on drums/vocals (formerly of the Neo-’90s Dance Band, et al.), and Keough on bass. "What are we like?" Bill asks rhetorically? "Close your eyes and imagine the first time you plopped down some grade-A vinyl like Wire’s Pink Flag. Now you get the picture."

I actually think that he is in fact married, I seem to recall FB saying this at some point. I could be wrong, though...
BTW, Nadine, is your name really Nadine? Not that it matters...

Actually, I checked back where I thought I had that and there's no mention of McDave, only Davey P, so the question is still open...

If McDave is not married then he is the only Catholic who is not, so I understand your confusion. I suppose.
Also, if McDave went to a Catholic boys school - I wonder if Scott went there as well. Maybe that is where the name came from. ??

I believe the name came from the OTHER meaning of Catholic...which is UNIVERSAL...I believe Frank mentioned that in the begining. It wasn't the religious meaning... |

a rough tradition of the first part.my spanish sucks(so does my english)but i did my best.if someone with better spanish doesn't continue i'll translate the rest later on.here it is:
After the memorable performance of frank black & his catholics (14 march 2001,Barcelona,more than 2 hours of a great? show),his bass player Dave had a chat with RIFF. The initial intention was to interview Mr.Black but due to a health problem (the ex-Pixie did the concert with almost 40° of fever) we prefered to have a chat with another member of the catholics the always hyperactive and ? Dave McCaffrey.with him and matt yellon the (sound engineer of the catholics)we talked about the new record, the future projects and other curiosities.
Riff:Compliments for the tonight's show.it was great.
Dave:yes, thanks!i had a great time tonight!i love playing in barcelona, and i'm sure that frank would say the same if he had had a better day...without the fever and all.
Riff:Despite the bad day he managed to sing for more than 2 hours and almost 40 songs...and all this without a fixed playlist?
Dave:yes...well you know.franks decides the songs to do as the show goes on.improvisation makes the gig more unpredictable and exciting.
Riff:and compliments on your last work "dog in the sand".i believe that it's the best record you made until now.
dave:i believe so too(laughs[red]).?Desde luego, ha sido el disco en el que más he disfrutado tocando.
RIFF: what can you tell us on the recording sessions?
Dave: everything came out natural and spontaneous. you know, when we are in the studio, Frank gives the starting idea end then we develop it all together.when we have an idea we record it live on 2 track!and that's it!the intention was to let the songs mature, then play them in the studio and capture them in the most direct form possible.doing this the new songs result more elaborated? than our previous works
Riff:for sure!the work on the guitars and drums is fantastic.it is clear that you have deeply explored the classic american rock sound.
Dave:frank is in love with that music.during the recording sessions for dog in the sand he bombed us with Dylan, Young, Dekker, Rolling Stones records.with such influences we couldn't record something techno!(laughs).and it's all about grabbing the music that comes from the inside
riff:frank's records are in continuous evolution:pop, rock, hardcore, surf, punk...
dave:yes, his first lps were various and strange.the first album that i was in (The Cult Of Ray)had a more punk and hardcore orientation.but starting with Frank Black & The Catholics our style became more ? rock.rock with loud guitars(laughs)
riff:how did you make it in frank's band?
dave:frank needed a bassist and a drummer at the end of 1995.Nick Vincent and Eric Feldman were gone to dedicated in other things,so i went to the audition with matt, frank liked us and we became part of the band
