Today's random song of the day is Chip Away Boy.
What do you think about it?
lyrics I used to have some fun Me and everyone Now I''m just employed
I''m a chip away boy
I remember humid nights I remember how the full moon tugs How it used to make us fight And the language of the bugs And even our doomsday
I''m a chip away boy I''m a chip away boy And I''ll chip away Till I make the other side I''m a chip away boy I''m a chip away boy
I think I''m falling in love And now she''s falling off her stool It’s not me she''s thinking of But I''m her little fool And she''s my Helen of Troy
I''m a chip away boy
You put on your camisole And I''ll jump in the rabbit hole And head for the sluice-way
I''m a chip away boy I''m a chip away boy And I''ll chip away Till I make the other side

Great intro to this tune, and just keeps gathering pace with beauty and melody . Who'd have thought i'd grow to love those country style licks, not me.Cheers for that Frank. |

And the rythem is very complicated (to me) too, the chords don't change that much through the song, but the rythem does.
very good song

"She's my Helen of Troy"
I wonder if the protagonist (Frank?) would be Paris, or eh... the King of Troy, what's his name...

One of my favourites, and contains another classic FB rhyme - "camisole" with "rabbit hole" - fantastic! |

Great song. Intro reminds me of SMiLE-era Beach Boys (Bicycle Rider).

I don't skip over it, but it's not one of my favorites. The lyrics are cool, but the music doesn't move me. |

This is a pretty cool little song.
Oh, and Doryphore, I think the King of Troy was named Priam, but I don't know that he's relevant here. Wasn't Paris King Priam's son? You might be thinking of the Greek who was married to Helen before Paris kidnapped her, but I don't remember his name.

Paris was Priam's son, and the man who was Helen's actual husband was named Meneleas. And NOW you know the REST of the story...

Right, Meneleas (Menelaos?)... he was a king as well, as I recall. No?
Anyway, I guess when the lyrics say 'Helen of Troy', she's already been "kidnapped" (though with full cooperation as I remember it!) by Paris. So that would make him the metaphorical protagonist in the song, right?

Someone posted long ago the theory that one of the meanings of the song is about a Chipawa Indian with humid night, language of the bugs, and the full moon and fighting. I like that theory and the idea that song can be about more than one thing. |

I don't know that anyone would consider Paris the protagonist, but I suppose you may be on to something. Paris was kind of considered a bit of a fool (a little fool?) himself (though excessively attractive) and was hated by most of his people for bringing 20 years of war and their ultimate doom upon them. Plus, he violated something sacred to the Greeks, which means that he betrayed his host (Meneleas) as a guest while staying with them. Which means THEY considered him worthless as well.
In the end, I think that Helen kind of 'lost interest' (for lack of a better expression) in Paris, as she had to be forced by Aphrodite to have any sort of relations with Paris. So that sort of fits with the song if you interpret it in a relationship context.
I always assumed it just meant he felt she was the most beautiful woman on earth and was trying (and maybe failing) to make her see his worth. But I'm not so sharp...
