First of all, I gotta say Bush, who are definetly Pixies-inspired, are shite. They don't have the any of the Pixies wit. Secondly, does anyone remember that 'Rockabye' song a few years back? I don't know who it was, but the guy in the video had long hair and an acoustic. It dose seem like a pinch from FB. |

I'm sure there are a TON of crap bands influenced by Frank - just cause he's so awesome - but luckily I can't think of too many. I don't need any more crap in my life, thank you very much.

It's actually Shawn Mullins but we won't hold that against you (to semi-quote ramona in a recent post).
Though I suppose me knowing the correct spelling of that fruit could be held against me.

Bloodhound gang, they are not funny and I have a childish sense of humor. These are probably more tributes than influences but I hope you die has a similar sounding guitar riff(intentional im guessing) to freedom rock, and fire water burns ending is a homage to the happening or the thing or whichever you prefer. They're a comedy/joke band anyway though.

I can't remember the name of the Bush song but Im sure it's generic just like their name and their music but...It's one of their hits, I think it was maybe the first one they had. The song is based around a bass line that is the EXACT same as the line that You Give Love a Bad Name is based on, except it's in half time. Ring any bells to anyone?

Bush's 'Swallowed' is like Pixies with no sense of humour. Shawn Mullins? "E-very day is gonna be alright...rockabye...rockabye!" |

Actually, the bassline in 'Planet Of Sound' sounds ripped off P.I.L's Public Image Limited. Or, at least, that song's intro. |

The Bush's song you are thinking of is "Comedown" and isn't the Bon Jovi song "Livin on a Prayer"?
I actually like some of Bush's stuff back in the day, but I don't listen to them anymore. The song right after Swallowed on the CD sounds soooo much like In Utero period Nirvana it isn't even funny.

From a story I heard from Jeremy (who heard it from Albini himself), apparently Steve Albini begged Bush not to put "Swallowed" on the album cause it was such an obvious Pixies ripoff.

Anyone remember Better Than Ezra with their "hit" Good?
I just downloaded it because I remember thinking it copped off the "I Bleed" bassline.. it kinda does. Download it now! It's pretty lame. It has some bad use of Pixies elements.

A few bands on mtv2 europe have chosen pixies songs. Teenage Fanclub, Supergrass, The Strokes, Marilyn Manson (however u spell his name i dunno) and some others. Think only Teenage Fanclub chose a Frank Black song. I like Teenage Fanclub and Supergrass are alright (hehe, as they say too). The strokes...hmmmmmmmmmmm...a few of their songs are ok, but im not a massive fan. Their fans (NME mostly) annoy me more than their music because they are way too hyped. As for Marilyn Manson...hehe...suppose he knows how to make money ;) |

I saw one of those good charlotte bastards wearing a death to the pixies shirt. I hope they thought it was literal and hate the pixies, because it's a disgrace for them to just be fans, let alone be "inspired" by them. |

Screw Good Charlotte. If they were at a Pixies reunion concert I'd pray to God someone would have the will to punch them all in the face.

Oh and crap bands influenced...what about reel big fish? Ive only heard one song (gigantic cover) and dont really know what to think. Are they shite? |

Muse, too, for my English friends. And Placebo, in a similar vein. The YYY's can go a bit Pixie-esque at times too. |

I love the Bloodhound gang, thats what music is about, having a laugh. And "I hope u die" is definatley a freedom rock rip off but so what. Jimmy pop's a great comedy lyricist.

Your prayers would swiftly be answered. By none other than me.
Plus, an added bonus... I would urinate on their quivering, battered bodies afterwards. With zest. And joy. Maybe hock a nice fat loogie on 'em as well.
And who said prayers are never answered? |

a crap band would be a crap band. a band influenced by FB& Co. would hopefully be decent as they would appear to have taste.

where the Pixies are coming from? Do you mean it in the sense that they were a "college radio" band and people who actually went to college and had a brain as opposed to some high school dropout junkie who just decided to start playing guitar? |
