sorry, this may is a rather pointless posting, but i just have to speak out how great i think SMYT is. when i first bought it, i was more or less dissapointed - i like country & folk a lot, but i thought the songs were just pretty weak. anyways, it took me some weeks or even months, but the album definitely grew on me. for me it is the most unusual or unexpected FB-album ever, it is so straight forward, especially with the lyrics. (nearly) all the songs are so down-to-the-point, everything sounds just so right and natural like i only experienced it with Bob Dylan's songs before. like a critic wrote, FB gets older, but with dignity. and i think, an awful lot of dignity. like FB/self-titled and TOTY were the absolutely right album he had to put out after the pixies, SMYT is the perfect album for this actual period. having said all this, i still can't believe that all these pixies-rumours are true. thinking of FB's musical evolution, it doesn't make any sense. don't get me wrong, i'm not negative about a possible reunion, i just don't believe it. the man is constantly going forward, and playing pixies-songs again would mean a lot of steps back - imo. but who knows, maybe there will be some other surprises. i hope so. |

So right, two_reelers! I think I remember your posts back when SMYT was released (or maybe not). Glad to see it grew on you. I just can't stop listening to it. Since september I've never been tired of this record. I have it at home on vinyl, at work on CD, and I also have it on MiniDisc to hear it between my home and my work...

Perhaps the Pixies will play reggae...who knows?

Personally I'm a bit tired of SMYT cuz I used to listen to it once or twice a day until recently. Now I rediscover all the King's previous albums. I think TOTY and DITS are still my faves, but SMYT definitely has a place in my Top 5, along with BLD and SSMVGD. |

Frank's stuff always grows on you - I never worry if his new album doesn't grab me initially, there's always things that emerge with repeated listens. |

I didn't know Elvis released albums with those initials. <g>

Have to bring me copy of SMYT back, 'cos the bit that holds in the CD is smashed. It's absolutely disgraceful. |

I really like that album, except the first and last songs. All the middle is great! Nice to see Stan Ridgway is still doing cool stuff.... |

He sounds a little melancholy on this one...but then, the name kinda implies the revelation of sadness....... |

I have a question. For those who have the x-tra four songs they released on I-tunes. What songs do you think should have been on the SMYT, if any? Obviously they're all "rockin good tunes", but I wonder how they would have fit into the final album. Personally, I think that "Preachers Daughter", definately could have claimed a spot on the finished product.
...Anybody?

That wasn't in any of your dreams, was it?
Although the placement of it would be interesting. Maybe right after "Horrible Day"? I dunno.
