Some time ago somebody subtly noticed that the rumors about the Pixies reunion had emerged just before the release of SMYT.
3 or 4 days ago we learned that the reunion was 'confirmed' and also that FB (or Black Francis? or both?) planned to release a new album soon.
Another amazing coincidence: the release of the new album and the first gig of the newly 'reunited' Pixies would both take place in early / mid Spring '04... Strange, isn'it?... |

Well it's not strange to me...
Let's say I want to sell my DVD player. And you ask me to sell your TV. If I sell your TV, I don't see it as a swindle to try and sell my DVD player too.
Now virtually everyone's singing a Pixies song / But I still believe in the excellent joy of Frank Black |

I think it's pretty obvious what is being suggested here - either that the Pixies reunion rumours aren't being shot down by official sources because they're helping sales of Catholics product, or the reunion plans and announcements thereof are being purposely orchestrated to coincide with Catholics-related announcements and plans. Well, whatever. IMHO, anyone who thinks the Pixies thing isn't happening is either a little close-minded, a little naive, or both. Sorry. |

I'm still stuck on the TV-DVD analogy. So if Frank Black asks you to sell his TV, but he already sold you his DVD player, and you need to buy tickets to the Pixies reunion, would you start out at the pawn shop? See, that would be wrong, 'cause those guys aren't gonna give you what it's worth. That would make Frank mad - or stick you paying the difference.

I'm speaking for myself, but I don't think it means anything; rather, it is an interesting synchonicity that Frog in the Sand happened to notice.

Everybody thinks the Pixies thing will happen but we don’t like it. At least I don't....
Frog in the Sand noticed an interesting synchronicity, but it’s not unusual to try to make a few bucks out of PR. Who doesn’t?

Yes. (I'm not saying it's the truth, I'm just saying that's more or less what I meant.) Btw, the endless silence of the official sources is difficult - though probably not impossible - to explain otherwise, IMO.

No no no... If there are reunion plans, then the coincidences I noticed are probably nothing more than simple coincidences.

Maybe I'm a little naive or close-minded, but to my eyes - the eyes of a somewhat experienced journalist - the Pixies thing has not been convincingly confirmed to date. |

My point was, if he can use the publicity of the Pixies reunion to sell his own record, than it's just fine. Perhaps they will just play a couple of shows together, and the purpose for FB will be to get a couple of articles about him, each one talking about his new solo album....it's a free advertisement.

In my case, I just bought a Sony DVD/VCR player... this would mean the Pixies are the VCR player and the Catholics are the DVD side. Both formats serve their purpose, but in the end the DVD player is the better of the two. While the VCR player is still used occasionally, it wouldn't make sense to keep buying VHS cassettes because DVDs are more quality.
Now here comes the twisit... the Pixies are releasing a DVD soon. So what does this mean?

the announcement about the pixies playing at coachella was on the 13th of January, the date they broke up 11 years ago. any significance, other than it's cool? |

Frog In The Sand- I disagree about the validity of confirmation, since reports on the Pixies reunion are coming from so many places (regardless of whether the multiple reports are really just one report being rehashed), and a LOT of people in the world of music journalism will have to bite their tongue if nothing actually happens.
Dave- good point, sort of.
Proverbial- are you saying you like the Catholics stuff better than the Pixies stuff, or that the present Pixies are too old to play like the Pixies of yore? |

I think I'm saying I listen to Frank Black stuff way more, but of course I love the Pixies.
The Pixies are from yesterday (VHS) and Frank Black is today (DVD). I see no need to go back to VHS tapes. But, come what may. If the Pixies got back together I'd still be intrigued by it and will love to see how it goes down.
Other than that, I was just making fun of analogies.

I think it means that you need to actually get a loan from the Pixies tour manager to buy a DVD burner, and convert all of your current VHS media over. Then, sell the VCR and VHS tapes to cover some of the cost of the dvd burner, and start pirating Pixies material on everythingenglish.com to make up the difference. You don't want to owe money to people in the entertainment business. They'll hurt you.

I agree with spudboy but see it differently. Let me clear this up for those of you that may be lost. As you may be aware, we here at the National Center for Awareness are totally committed to ending this scourge across our nation known as Situational Condititioning. As of December of last year, Situational Conditioning has been reported as far east as Waltham, MA and as far north as Pinehurst. The figures for southern and western expansion were not available at press time, however, some experts agree that other experts are most definitely incorrect in choosing not to agree, or in some cases, even give the appearance of agreement on what would otherwise be a highly agreeable statement. "In dispute at this time is not the numbers of expansion, it's simply the basic truth that these liberal, water-drinking, street-driving, home-living-in media pundits utterly refuse to admit what's already been admitted to the entire world over", said Davis Levy, Senior Director for some guy's firm that might represent cases like these. He continued, "it's concentration in the state of Massachusetts leaves many of us to believe this is clearly some kind of republican effort to redistribute these little red shiny things in a blatant effort to take control". Mr. Levy's friend, Yeldik Stingham, was not available for comment.
Note to self - YES!! Thank's to Spudboy's advice, making love to blow up doll is better than advertised!! Side note to self: Mad Dog 20/20. It isn't just for high school dances anymore! |

but, the real question is "will the pixies release a new album after the reunion ?". i guess "yes" ! because they will jam together, play a lot (a few weeks) for remembering there stuff. so... if they enjoy to play together, the will release a new album. that's my point of view. and, anyway, the will release the "live" album of the show !

i don't think that the pixies will release a new album if/when they reunite.
however, what they could do is record an album of "solo" songs as the pixies...
like record 6 frank black/frank black & the catholics songs and 6 breeders/amps ones... now that would be pretty awesome... well maybe not. but i would be interested in hearing the results.
now if you had to pick 6 of each - well actually that might not be far seeing as frank has released so many more songs than kim.... i wonder what a better ratio would be? 7 and 5 maybe.... but what would they be?

Again, if the Pixies thing is true, the coincidences I noticed are probably nothing more than coincidences - and you're allowed to kick my ass. But if the rumors turn out to be false, these coincidences certainly mean something IMO. We'll have to wonder how / why they emerged and persisted despite their implausibility and the lack of solid evidence. That's all I meant, sorry if I wasn't explicit enough.

Dude, take it easy. It's just a difference of opinion. I just read the news page... so this stuff is being reported exclusively by outside sources. Big deal, I knew that. But the reports that are coming out are, in my estimation, unusually affirmative and specific. In the real world, a festival like Coachella could get in a lot of trouble for saying that a "reuniting" band like the Pixies is going to play there when a contract isn't even in the works. The reunion must at least be in the "66% likely to happen" stage, unless the planners are looking for a false advertising suit. I could be wrong. Anyway, I'm not saying this because I'm deadset on seeing the reunion happen; I honestly don't care either way. The Catholics are great, the Pixies are great. Peace. |
