Asbury Park was visited by Frank and his Catholics last night. It was a great show, the sound wasn't too bad except for a couple of minor glitches (one really weird feedback sound that really felt like a gunshot through my ears. I heard the guys talking about it afterwards, and they too seemed kind of like "Yeah, that was weird, what was that??".

Here's the setlist:

Came on stage to: All the Tired Horses

1. Wave of Mutilation
2. Bullet
3. California Bound
4. Cold Heart of Stone
5. Beautiful Day-Horrible Day
6. Robert Onion
7. Out of State
8. Jane the Queen of Love
9. Gouge Away
10. Hermaphroditos
11. Crackity Jones
12. Thalassocracy
13. Rock and Roll (Not sure of the title, but one of the new ones)
14. Men In Black
15. Steak 'n Sabre
16. I've Seen Your Picture
17. South Bound Bevy
18. Cactus
19. Whiskey In Your Shoes
20. How You Went So Far
21. Manitoba
22. There Goes Nadine
23. 666
24. All My Ghosts
25. Solid Gold
26. Black Letter Days

Encore:

1. Dirty Old Town
2. Chip Away Boy
3. Sister Isabel

All and all a solid, 2 hour show. They just cranked one song after another, like a FB&TC's rockin' train! Frank didn't say too much except to introduce the band, and at the end he said something about how you can get great Italian food here on the East coast, unlike in L.A. He thanked everyone for coming a few times, and dropped his pick on the stage at the end for the lucky first grabber!

Frank was really thrashing around quite a lot, and his voice seemed right on. It was cool to see him bounding around so much. He has definitely lost quite a bit of weight. Rich was wearing a kind of cool country-ish type suit. Scott had on yellow glasses and his cowboy hat- looked really cool actually! Dave and Dave and Frank wore suits.

I have to get the pics developed, and then see where we can put them (Dave?).

Reid Paley and The Bennies were good. Reid is hilarious, a fun guy to see. Spoke briefly to Jeremy of the Bennies, he is a very nice guy. The Dave Lovering "Show" was really cute. I ended up being the volunteer with the money thing... I lost. Oh well...

I can't wait for tonight. Hopefully he plays a few more songs or stays and fill out autographs because he'll have 2 days off so he'll feel generous.

Zan, were you taking flash photos as well? I'd really like to bring my digital camera but I don't want to piss of the guys.

Hi Thomas, I'll be seeing you and your wife there tonight! Looking forward to it. Floop, I'll see you there as well.

He was signing some stuff after the show, so hopefully he'll be in the same good spirits tonight. He seemed very relaxed after the show and very cordial. I've seen him quite the opposite, tho, so one never knows, but let's cross our fingers!!

Yes, I used flash. I asked Dave M before the show about taking pics, and he said no prob. I saw a few flashes now and then, so I wasn't the only one. I was literally right in front of the Daves and they didn't seem to mind at all. Either did Frank, because I was in the front row so hopefully got a couple of good snaps of him too. I think the stage lights are so bright that it really doesn't phase them at all.

See you tonight!
Zan

Oh, and a correction on the setlist:

13. is "I Want Rock 'n Roll" from Pistolero.

Thanks, gibbo.

Hey guys, great comments, glad you liked the review.

It's been fun joking around about Dave P, and I know I'm usually the first one to start it, but I think it has crossed the line. The guy is married, he doesn't need this, it's not funny anymore.

Consider this my public service announcement for the day, and the rest of my forum life.

Thanks,
Zan
