i don't think it was an either/or situation.. i think they're both going to be included..
but yeah, for me, their whole bizarre, colorful stage show enhances the music .. it works perfectly with their albums and their vibe. (i can see how it might distract me if it was used with a different kind of band .. but they pull it off) |

i was really distracted by the entire experience of seeing the flaming lips... it detracted from the music for me, and i ended disliking the gig quite a lot - the worst one i went to last year in fact.
made me think they were doing all the additional stuff because they weren't confident their music was good to stand alone enough without the distractions. however, by the response of the crowd that night, i think i was in the minority....

i'm 37, when the cure were around the first time, i was into the replacements and ramones and husker du and x and rock stuff like that. i pretty much made fun of the "ohhh, i'm hurting and the world is so black, and i'm so desperately british and it's raining all the time" music of the cure and the smiths... also couldn't really stand the goth kids, in my world we got drunk and screwed and stayed out all night laughing and just... i dunno... living, you know? the goth kids just stood around like they hated everything... i just didn't have time for that silliness. anyways, in my mid twenties i was able to finally appreciate the smiths for marr's sonic brilliance and morrissey's smart-assed wit. the cure, though... i've never totally warmed up to 'em... i can say that there are three songs they do that i absolutely love. just three. those being shake, dog, shake, in between days, and just like heaven. other than that, i can totally do without them. the flaming lips on the other hand... man... that band has given me a loooooong ride. from the buzzed out acid punk of their beginnings in the eighties to the zeppelinesque bombastic drums when drozd first joined to the deliriously jubilant (without being sappy or hippified) music of the soft bulletin to the crazed revival show on acid they're doing now. for me, the lips are waaaay more prolific and creative... and more fun to listen to, than the cure. but that's just me.... i hope you enjoy the cure at coachella, i know i'll enjoy the flaming lips... let's keep our fingers crossed that we both get to enjoy the pixies.

Like people have pointed out, They won't be opening for Radiohead at Coachella, just co-headlining.
The sad news is that there are a bunch of tentatively scheduled shows in Europe over the summer, where The Pixies may actually be opening for the Red Hot Chili Peppers!!?? Just like the time I saw The Pixies open for Jane's Addiction, this seems a little backwards. But I guess that's what happens when you take more than 10 years off. The Chili Peppers haven't stopped since 1984. Even though they sold/mellowed out, they have still earned thier place.

hahaha, floop.
And I'm sorry to say this...but there's no such thing as two people headlining. Not even at a music festival. They can say that there are two people headlining but they're not. No such thing, sorry to break it to you.

that's not realy true, Crouton. Any festival I've ever been to has multiple stages, with bands playing on all of them at the same time, so therefore, the Pixies COULD co-headline with Radiohead (although personally I hope that's not the case so I can see them both)

To be honest, I've yet to go to one of these all day festivals where the "headlining" act wan't so drunk and/or burned out that the final act didn't or people just didn't care any more by the time they went on.
If Pixies play at, say, 9:30 or 10:00, if would be just about perfect. Catch a few tunes of Radiohead and crash for the day.
It's not like supporting RHCP where they go on at 7:00 when nobody's even at the show or they're getting drink or buying RHCP T-Shirts and don't give a shit. |

Co-Headlining usually means both setlists get to be 90 minutes or more. If its just Radiohead headlining, Pixies will only play for 50 minutes max.

well, the pixies and radiohead are my two favorite bands so im in a bittersweet feel. BUT you must realize that radiohead has been around and grown gigantically since the pixies breaking up and their reunion is great but the average ass on the street doesnt remember them and radiohead would sell better. I wouldnt think of them opening for radiohead as much as all the other bands opening for the piexies and radiohead. You just have to realize that that the pixies have been broken up for a while and the main spotlight isnt on them YET. Its just that returning means working back up and this is a major part of it |

I couldn't see Thom Yorke allowing the Pixies to open for Radiohead, unless maybe Black specifically told Yorke he wanted to. Anyway i agree with everyone who says they are co headlining, that makes more sense. If the Pixies went on tour with Radiohead that would be fucking sweet
Don't look at the carpet, I drew something awful on it

Seriously, seriously, you people need to chill out. You're going to see the PIXIES for chrissake and all you're doing is saying "boo hoo I might have the precious experience tainted by the presence of one of the greatest modern bands still recording, woe is me etc etc". Six months ago there was no way you could ever have DREAMED of seeing the Pixies. Get over it. Go, see the Pixies, see Radiohead, enjoy them both. Be grateful you don't live in the 98% of the Earth not currently graced by provisional Pixies dates. |

I seriously doubt the Pixies will be touring with Radiohead anyway. They may appear at a festival with them but that's about it. I really don't think there is anything to discuss here. |
