I read on the GBV message board that the Pixies are offically scheduled to play the "Coachella" tour with Radiohead. Does that piss anybody else off? I would much rather see the Pixies headlining than have to pay for Radiohead, and who knows how many other bands (this is a Lollapalooza-type concert). Any thoughts?

Jesus Christ it has to be true actually. MAYBE though, they'll just play the festival and that'll be all they do for a reunion and we can have a Catholics tour before or after it, but that's probably just wishful thinking

If the Pixies do reunite, they shouldn't be anything less than the headliners, otherwise, what the fuck's the point?

coachella isn't a tour, you silly goofs... it's a festival with tons and tons and tons of bands.
the pixies wouldn't be "opening" for radiohead. if it's true about them being on right before radiohead then they'd actually be "co-headlining" the main stage, after about 5 other bands... what the hell is wrong with that? it's actually a really, really great timeslot to have... pretty much the best of the day, seeing as folks start heading for the parking lot during the last band to avoid traffic.
for those of you who don't really know what coachella is, here's last years line-up: www.coachella.com.
this year it takes place may 1 & 2, several bands have already confirmed, the most notable so far being air. if you want to see some of the others confirmed, go to www.pollstar.com and run a search for "indio" under the "city schedule" tour search.
and if anyone's thinking of going, motel6.com shows rooms still available in indio, but that won't last long.

The group's last major tour came while supporting U2 on a number of U.S. dates on the 1992 Zoo TV trek. Goldenvoice Promotions head Paul Tollett tells Billboard.com he has tried to book the Pixies "every year" for the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Calif. "I still haven't made any movement," he reports. "[I'm] not sure if they are speaking to each other."

I could not possibly concur more strongly! These caps, whether baseball caps, trucker hats or whatever are so fucking old and played out it's sad. I used to have a special baseball cap which was the only one I owned at the time, a circle m logo, white on black,which was for a band called "mortal" but I really liked because my last name begins with the letter M. After attending Lollapalloza '94 and seeing the sea of dumbasses in baseball caps I decided then and there that I would never ever wear one again. (I was not wearing mine at the time.) And I never have except briefly while drinking and handed one by friends to try on. The faux-redneck "trucker hat" is just one particular variation of the baseball cap syndrome and it too has been done for a long time now, as has the hip-hop inspired slantys and tilts and backwards and yaddayaddayadda. I fucking hate those hats.

the sad thing is that about 3 years ago I found this great Hank Williams Jr. trucker hat in a thrift store and bought and wore it almost nonstop for about 6 months. THen I noticed an influx of fraternity boys and the like wearing them (soon followed by Ashton Kutcher and Justin Timberlake) and haven't worn mine since. I loved that hat....it fit like it was made for my head, and now I dont even know where it is

| Whats worse is that over here Trucker Hats are starting to go hand in hand with Ramones t-shirts. At first I didnt mind, i thought it was pretty cool that people were wearing Ramones t-shirts, but they're not "proper" Ramones t-shirts...it's like a tacky brand made by a wanky company like FCUK or something. Well, they are official i think, but there's only one type of t-shirt rather than the variation you'll find at old record stores or online music merchandise shops. And the worst thing is...I often see people wearing them at the bar I work in and compliment them on their good choice in music...and the response?? "They're a band?! A punk band?!?! I didnt know......" Makes me sick!!!!!!! |

I like the idea of Radiohead playing after the Pixies. No doubt there are going to be thousands of people there who only really came for Radiohead who are gonna leave wanting more Pixies and Frank Black. I think that's the point, if any.

well, it doesn't specify which day the Pixies would be playing.. before, they made it sound like Pixies would headline the Saturday show and Radiohead the Sunday show, but now it's looking like the stinking Cure will take that slot on Saturday..
not everyone goes to both days.. you can just pay for one day. |

yeah, the cure's a big letdown... i had heard early on of david bowie being a possibility, bummer that's not happening.
anyway, from the very beginning, the confirmation from goldenvoice was that radiohead, the pixies, and kraftwerk were all on saturday.
now they need to tweak sunday or i'm just gonna go on the saturday... the flips are a good start, but i'm gonna need more than that offered up if i'm gonna stick around and shell out the cash for day 2.
there are little rumblings here and there of a my bloody valentine reunion at the festival... that would definitely make me spend sunday at coachella.

yeah, flaming lips just further increases the must-see factor. as much as i hate festivals, this one should be pretty fun.
if the Cure or Bowie perform then it's doubtful that Pixies will get the "headlining" last-place slot of the day.. which i suppose is good and bad. bad in that, all the other slots throughout the day are usually limited to like a 45 minute set. but the last "headlining" band usually plays longer than that.
good though in that, if Pixies go on second to last before the Cure, you can beat the traffic and head out to Agua Caliente (as i'm going to)..
this show is going to be crazy. i already know so many of my old friends are going to be there. and i'm sure there'll be an ex- girlfriend or two in the mix. should be good times. |

the flaming lips over the cure!?!?! what?...
I saw them at the summer festival in ireland this year. I love the band but their live show is a fucking farce. Its barely about music. they're really popular here and also they were playing the white stripes slot, so it was me and my friends and three billion gimps throwing those fucking balloons around. i tried to get into it but i guess i was probably just too sober. whatever you do, if you go to see them be at least a little drunk or stoned or something. DONT go to appreciate the music. |
