I've heard Weezer's cover of "Velouria," and it was okay, but lacked the awe-inspiring sound that attracted me to the Pixies song in the first place. I guess it wouldn't make sense to do a cover that sounded exactly the same, though.
"Winterlong" has excellent harmonies between Frank and Kim. Probably the best cover song the Pixies did, although I have to say the very existence of "Theme From Narc" is really cool.

Weezer made it sound like a Weezer song, which I guess was the intention. I think it works well in that context.

My current faves: Hey,Where is My Mind(due to watching Fight Club),Planet of Sound, and I always have enjoyed Tony's Theme, too.

While we're discussing Theme From Narc, could anyone explain to me what the song is all about? I mean, I don't imagine there's much depth to the lyrics, but what's with the "Theme?" Was there a specific reason why he wrote it? I've found it really clever since I was always curious to hear what it would sound like and it turned out to be three words. On that level, I love the song. But I always kind of wonder if I'm missing something. Am I crazy and just trying to overanalyze too much. |

Isn't "Theme From Narc" a cover of the theme music from a video game? The game was called NARC, so the title makes sense.

While hearing the version of Boom chicka boom from the ftp-server, I realized I've never heard this song before... So cool to 'discover' a 'new' Pixies song. And I love it! Especially Joey's guitarparts, great melody.
My all time favourite will be Caribou, after hearing it live this tour I realized how awesome this one is, it's at the top of my top 100 list of all time

Actually the Toadies cover of WIMM was done live. They never did a studio copy. Myself being a huge Toadies fan I love their version. There is another version of their cover of WIMM on the FB.net FTP. It was taken from a radio braodcast. The singer, Todd Lewis, explains "this is a cover, if you can think of all the songs we ripped from this here one song you'll get a prize".

George they did put out a full length album in 2001 called Hell Below / Stars Above. They had lots of label problems. Platinum selling bands are not supposed to have those problems. Aezra records the label that released the Live album are supposed to have the rights to Feeler, the album their record label was supposed to put out in 1997, and might release it this or next year.
The singer is in a band called The Burden Brothers The drummer is in eleven hundred springs. The other guitar player went to film school in LA and the bass player is gonna be an Ewok in the new Star Wars movie.

Oddly enough, George42, the Pixies didn't write any of those songs. Granted, I assume you knew that, it does bring up the point that they managed to take other people's songs (and songs off of video games) and make them kick so much ass.

Dead+S.A.Y are also personal faves, and Sad Punk is right up there, too....speaking of punks, yesterday was the 25th anniversary of Sid Vicious' death....and in April, it'll be a decade since Cobain passed on. Sigh. |
