Six Sixty Six (it was a joke?)
As for whether it's a joke, I doubt it, but that doesn't mean you have to take it literaly either. In any case, it's a cover of a song from an old old Christian rocker named Larry Norman. I'm suprised the lad using the Larry Norman Jr. handle didn't comment. In any case Mr. Norman is also supposed to have written a lyric which included "... come on pilgrim you know he loves you... " which FB so famously (at least to us) apropriated.
Re: skipping songs. I think there is something to the school of thought that says you should listen to the album from start to finish in its entirety to properly appreciate it. Think about the old days (with vinyl), it was a pain in the ass to skip, so more than likely you would just listen to the whole record. (Plus you got a break in the middle, pretty convenient sometimes.) On the other hand, there's nothing *wrong* with listening to them out of order or skipping either. I mean, it's freedom, no one can stop you. Moreover, if the "narrative" hypothesis is true, then alternate orders and skipping can only lead to new, equally valid interpretations.

What!!?!?!
my thoughts exactly.... all over the world is a phenomenal song....only marginally behind river euphrates on my alltime pixies list.
on a related note - i remember reading an interview years ago where someone (kim or frank) said how all over the world actually began as 2 completely separate songs and that one day they just kinda segued them together by chance and they kept it like that.... anyone know where i got that from, or did i just make it up? |
