Hi all. I've seen Frank Black play probably around 10 times, and he's never played Cactus. On several of the posts on this site, people had mentioned Cactus was one song they'd love to hear him play at shows. And now in the recently posted show reviews several people have mentioned that he played Cactus. Could we be so bold as to think he's actually listening to us, or is this just a coincidence. Any thoughts(or in this case, wild speculation)? |

He played Cactus last Friday (Nov 1) and Toronto and it was amazing...as for him listening to our pandering for tunes I don't think this is very likely. He seems intent on doing his own thing and I speculate he plays certain Pixies songs on whim sort of what ever feels good at the time. In the three shows I saw he only played Cactus once, but, I did miss the first set of one gig. |

I would guess Bowie releasing a version of Cactus has more to do with him playing the song than our message board banter. |

Yeah, he first started playing "Cactus" again back in July.. well before this site was even a twinkle in Dave's eye. |

I was surprised as well. He played it Saturday night in T.O as well.

It was really good to hear him play it because I didn't know he did Cactus with FB&TC. After thinking about it I think he played itbecause of the Bowie thing...my friend mentioned it but I forgot Cactus was on Bowie's new album.
As for message board banter I don't think it will affect Frank all that much...again he seems to do his own thing. |

I think it would be funny if he said before the song "This is a David Bowie Song!!!" I think it would be classic Frank humor. And for the record, I can't wait to hear it at either the Asbury Park show or the Bowery Ballroom! It is my favorite song by the other band, ya know!

There are going to be plenty of us there; from the message board. If you need quick and cheap directions into the city feel free to e-mail me. It may take a few more minutes to get there but you won't have a car hassle and whattnot. I'm going with two of the biggest FB fans, besides me, that I know. But you are more than welcome to hang with us! |

I could have said the same thing in December 1990 for the PIXIES Ritz show. I bought 2 tickets for the show but my girlfriend, at the time, wasn't able to make it at the last minute. I went by myself and sold the extra ticket. I sold the ticket at face value to. I think $25 or so. What a nice guy. Since I was by myself It was kind of awkward so I didn't venture to the front of the stage. I stood back and by the end of the show I was up on the balcany by the soundboard.
My second and last PIXIES show was much better front and center (Joey's sweat dripping on me and my wife) but I often think the first show could have been my only chance and I might have missed it.
