...that likes John Denver. Okay so maybe the music sounds pretty much the same on most of it is pretty bland a lot of times, but he is one of the coolest guys that ever lived and his lyrics are absolutely incredible. I like his later stuff a whole lot like I Want To Live and One World, and then Back Home Again has to be one of the top 100 albums ever. Any other fans?

My mom is a fan.
She said he was lame in-concert, though.

I was forcefed some of it when I was young (in the mid-'70s). I still know a lot of the lyrics if I happen to hear one of the songs. He was a Baltimore Orioles fan and stood up against Tipper Gore in the PMRC hearings, so he's okay in my book. |

When I was six I got to go the factory in NYC where they made all the Muppets (the Muppet factory? I know not) and John Denver was there. I always had sort of a weird awe towards him after that, like he was forever linked with this strange day. And the Muppets dug him, so he must have been cool.
Other than that, I was sort of ambivilant but he always seemed like a nice man. I was sad when he died mostly cause his kids were pretty young at the time. Anyway... |

Wow, ramona - the Muppet factory? You were some lucky kid!
I always respected John Denver as a person for some unknown reason - he seemed like a good guy? Some of his songs are just part of my childhood; I was born in 73, so I heard my mom play him alot, or on the radio, in the car. It isn't something I would choose to listen to, but when I hear it I have equal parts cringe and nostalgic comfort. Weird.

Ah, John Denver. I was in Las Vegas and awoke in my hotel one morning with some friends. I announced, "let's turn on tv and see who died yesterday!" We had not watched tv in days, as we were caught up in the evils of Vegas. I immediatly hit POWER, and as the screen shimmied to life, a news anchorman, as if on que, replied "Country singer John Denver has died yesterday...". I will never forget it. The man called Czar.

Years ago I went to an Oriole game in Baltimore (Camden Yards) and John Denver was there and during the 7th inning stretch he stood on top of the dugout while they played "Thank God I'm a Country Boy."
This event took place before he died.

No, of course not. One could make a movie about the life of JD. |

As one could make a movie about the life of John Ritter, too.

I totally respect john denver. He really seemed sincere whenever he was singing about peace and love. His work with the Muppets was always good.
Also, in 1985 he went up against the Gores in Congress arguing against parental advisory labeling, arguing it was censorship against the artist. That's pretty cool, cause someone the music cleansers are fans of his, if you read ahead. Here a link to the congressional transcript. The Onion reported that John Denver had sunshine on his shoulders when his plane ran out of gas and crashed, killing him. <sniffle> I thought he'd kicked that habit! |
