I know it was yesterday. I still can't believe it's been 23 years. I got into the Beatles in '79 when my Aunt let me have her Sgt. Pepper and Magical Myster Tour vinyl albums. What a discovery that was. Thanks Aunt Marge. I was 13 when he was murdered. My parents didn't let me know until the next morning. They knew how much a fan I was and consolded me before I saw the news. Talk about shock.

For Christmas that year I got a cassette radio and in the tape deck was a cassette my father made of all the different radio stations talk about Lennon and his music from the day after he died. He didn't stop recording until the tape was full, you could hear the channel changing during recording.

I remember going to the Jets game (american football) the Sunday after he died and they had a moment of silence for him.

I always liked Lennon over McCartney. My favorite album is JOHN LENNON/PLASTIC ONO BAND and songs are MOTHER & GOD.

I can still here the intro to MY LIFE being played by all the news stations till this day.

That's nice, Thomas. Thanks. I love the part about the tape from your dad. My mom is a huge Beatles fan and loves Paul, but I'm with you - I always preferred John. He just seemed more challenging and witty.

I know murders are generally senseless, pointless, and hard to understand, but his just seems incomprehensible to me.

Thanks. I wish I knew where that tape was. I'm sure I still have it, but it's moved quite alot in 23 years. My Dad isn't a Beatles fan by any stretch, he likes the 50's, but he knew how much I liked the Beatles and Lennon. It helped.

Ohhh my god Thomas we could be the same person!
apart from that I was born 1984 so that I was -4 when he was murdered, and that I don't have such a nice and heartwarming mixed tape, I like plastic ono band the best and mother and god are my favourite songs too.

I was seven years old and remember exactly what I was doing and where. The Beatles and Stones had already taken over my life, so I was at a complete loss. Very sad, sad evening, even at that early of an age

I was more upset about Darby Crash killing himself. In retrospect, being bothered by that seems pretty silly.
