Wow, you're the perfect example of an arrogant European.
There's no US history worth talking about? It's ridiculous that someone from Denmark (any important world events ever happen there? other than women's handball) is puffing up about the relative unimportance or lack of history of the US. |

What you want me to quiz you about US history? And what will that prove? Anything you don't know you'll claim is unimportant.
North and South America, by the way, is full of lost civilizations. I don't derive any pride from that. I do however know some stories about the history of Texas. As a kid who grew up there I took a class on its history. You may turn up your arrogant nose and say anything only 150 years old isn't really history, but I would say that history is more relevant to me than anything written in the book of Saxo Grammaticus. |

danish boy you are pathetic.it's easy to say that americans don't have history.so what? their last 200 years are far more influencing the world than 1000 years of danish history(are you serious when you consider history some medieval war between clans?and why are you so proud about it?).don't be so paternalistic with your "european history" cause easily i could say that when greeks were talking about philosophy 2000 years before christ your ancestors where still on the trees.don't be so arrogant specially when you have nothing to be arrogant about

Danishboy if you are not even going to take the time to read my counterargument, or dismiss it in your prickish, offhanded arrogant way, then fuck you. The original topic was NOT about "who would make a good king for the U.S." it was simply about monarchy. Period. You can sit there and be all proud of your insignificant little country, and try to make us feel barbaric because we had a Civil War, but really tell me when the events of Denmark have had any impact on the history of the world. Maybe to you they do, in the michrochasmic little sphere that you live in, but there is no way you can prove to anyone that the U.S. doesn't have any interesting history behind it.
By the way, just because something doesn't interest you or you don't want to consider it, does not mean that it isn't important to other people. LISTEN to what people are saying, as I have given you that respect in listening to your little speil about how advanced and cultured Denmark is, and how backward and terrible all the other countries of the world are.

It's bullshit to think that the Soviet Union couldn't have overthrown Denmark. We both know they could have, and easily, and the "world's oldest democracy" would have been replaced by communism.

Sorry but I'm with Danishboy on this - there is no way the Soviet Union would have overthrown the "worlds oldest democracy" - not so long as there were great big US missiles waiting to shoot up their red asses.

But you don't hear those of us of Greek descent bragging our country up against the world.
We do that in our native tongue. :)

Seams i hit a nerve, i was just wondering why i never hear or read what your great country(mean US)was like before "the white man" arrived why do you think that is? Maybe there wasent any good storys to tell, i just find that hard to believe. I was trying to provok any of you, to tell why your country is great. But you all get so defensive about it, so why dont we just drop it ok. You win your country is bigger, better or something than my country "no one thing your missing out of blue-blooded citizens, and where´s the decadence?"

I am going to try to answer your question, danishboy - assuming that last part is a question. The native peoples who lived here before the swarms of Viking, Spanish, French, English, Portuguese, etc., etc. came and took their chunks of land and resources, including slaves, did not have a cohesive written history of their peoples (massive generalization). I would argue that there is still quite a bit of history to be learned, if you try hard enough (go to the library or google it) and we are discovering more and more about the inhabitants from tens of thousands of years ago through decades of archaeology. If you find that you want to know more about this country's history, both before and after colonization, all you need to do is research it for yourself. Stirring up heated battles with nationalistic one-liners will not get you anywhere - it just comes off as rude, which will get you defensiveness, and rightly so.

yeah i know.i wanted to see if anyone noted the "my big fat greek wedding" reference.danishboy reminded me of the bride's father who kept braagging about greek culture as if socrates was his uncle.my point was to prove how useless is to brag about national history but irony doesn't arrive in nazionalist minds (greeks as you may know are world champions in bragging and it's something i could never stand )...

yep i saw it and i laughed my ass off.at least i can laugh with my origins.i don't want to be so pathetic to bragg about my ancestors' ancient history(and you must admit that greeks and byzantines were fairly more important and influencial than your barbaric viking kings).you should try to read a bit more and be more open minded instead of repeating worn out antiamerican slogans and believing that Saxo Grammaticus' story is the epitome of european litterature. it's easy to say that americans have a bloody history(who hasn't anyway) but it takes a bit of intelligence to understand that not all americans are proud about it.you take for granted that danish history is innocent, important and worth reading i say that since you are in the E.U try to be less nazionalist and more open to different cultures.

Danishboy is really being a nerd, but that's ok. There's some good danish music though, Superheroes for one. And what about lego and Hans Christian Anderson? Without mr.Anderson there would have been no American Disney movie called 'The Little Mermaid'.
the US has lot's of history, danishboy, you know it, so don't be such a fool.
