What an episode!! One of the best ever. This season has been magnificent. It's back!! I was really scared for it for a while but not anymore. This episode was so good; so many references. The California Raisin's Christmas Special (which my mother taped over for ice skating and few but me have seemed to remember until recently), Mr. Magoo, The Grinch, Star Trek, Ultra Man, Astro Boy!!! Oh boy am I giddy.

I'm with you on that. This season has really turned the series around. Last season wasn't bad either... They really have some good writing going on, with a lot of old style not-so-obvious-or-moronic-and-annoying-and-unrealistic humor, unlike that found in the former seasons. I liked the Grinch parody with Homer's song, that was pretty funny. Hans Moleman's bit was great too.

I must say I haven't seen that episode but the simpsons is so poor these days. Seasons 3-9 and a half were amazing after season 11 I stopped making an effort. |

oh give me a break, youre apparently forgetting that post season 11 simpsons includes some of the best episodes in the shows history! namely skinners sense of snow (christmas special where school is snowed in), the one where Maude Flanders dies, and the prank monkey one, just to name a few! These are all undeniable classics. You could make the case that in a given later season there may be an episode or two that arent as funny as the earlier ones, but thats no reason to give up on the show. i hear so many people saying that and it makes no sense. I think people just like to hate stuff that becomes popular, its the thing to do i guess

I agree with Malax. I grew up on The Simpsons; I've been watching since the Tracey Ullman days. Seasons 3-8 were definitely the best the series has ever seen. Around 9, things started getting a little weirder...after thet, the show just fell apart. The occurances became more bizarre and unrealistic (how many times has Homer gushed blood?), Homer became the show's focus and became 100 times more annoying and more retarded, the jokes were all so obvious, spelled out, and predictable, the plots were extremely rediculous. Granted, there were a few episodes that stood out, but as a whole, these seasons were shit. I don't hate them for any other reason than the quality was terrible.
When Al Jean took over from Mike Sculley, there was an obvious boost in the quality of the episodes which we're seeing today. The intelligent humor is back, Homer is tolerable, and the writing overall has improved. It makes me hope that the series continues.

Ha, I agree. Unfortunately as I've been watching the Simpsons pretty much since its conception I have disagree. I would have stopped watching it after season 1 would I not? It was more popular then than it is now. Thats for sure.
Not a chance. I loved the simpsons so so much. It started to deteriate around season 9 but I still loved it. 10 was a bit dodgy but again it was still funny enough. Now really it is very poor the jokes are sub standard and the stories are stupid. The idea was for the simpsons to be realistic but its not anymore. The majority of jokes revolve around Homer being injured and such. Its all very very basic tried and tested sort of stuff. Non of the hillariously clever stuff they had at the beginning. |

Coincidently Mike Sculley took over from um....I forget......was it not around season 9. I remember thinking it was a bit of a coincidence. |
