A fight breaks out in a pub. A bystander is sipping his drink nearby. He knows he should walk away but decides to throw a couple of half hearted punches. The fuzz then arrive and arrest everyone in the vicinity (instigators or not). They get thrown in jail for the weekend to sober up.
I think the bystander could be Floop.

I try to avoid city centres in the evening. I'm more of a 'sit at home listening to FB&C with a gin & tonic' man these days.
p.s were you wearing a FB t shirt (with playing card design?) and carrying a bag at the Shepherds Bush gig? Saw a bloke gazing intently round the room. Thought it might be you but didn't want to have to ask this person if he was the Cheeseman. He might have taken offence!

| yeah, I went back and read that fight stuff and it looks to me like floop was only defending himself on the rare occasions he did say anything. Unless he's been known for hopping in the middle of stuff like that in the past. |

ah thanks. I had read the Gay Man topic but didn't see Dave's notice. I think one week for floop is too much but not enough for the swimmer. I seriously can't believe that this is what finally did it. Worse things have been said.

I would hate to have to be the hall monitor here, so, I feel for the guys who have to make the call on how to deal with idiots who really do take the enjoyment level of the board down. However, I cant see how Floop gets the same treatment for his first ever feud (that I have seen) as the serial-idiots.
Seriously, though, if you are over the age of 15 or so, and you have been banned by a forum like this, its time to ask yourself some questions. |

We've all seen this stuff before on other forums. Combine low self esteem or poor self image with a superiority complex. I used to work with a guy exactly like that. He was fired because he shot his mouth off once too many. The desire for one-upmanship never gets satisfied with these folks.

Jim - what are you doing to change this? What, in your opinion, would improve things?
I don't think it's 'gone to shit', i think there's only so many times you can discuss some items. I pick the threads i read fairly carefully, and i'm still getting a fair bit out of it (some days are better than others of course.)
But to be a moderator here, and declare the Forum has 'gone to shit' isn't a very helpful. At some point you need to take responsibility. |

I guess it's time for me to pipe in.
The fact is that you can argue that Floop or Hordak for that matter is not as bad as Swimmer, Stitches, or Rockathon. I suppose I would use the term provocative (in a negative sense). But the fact is that if people start getting involved in the fighting and don't just ignore the childishness, then they sink to that level. And when you've sunk to that level, then probably something has to be done or it spreads.
The best way to deal with the people who annoy us is to ignore them. If someone comes and insults you directly, maybe one counterpunch and then leave it. You've all seen this happen: when one person keeps instigating, who looks stupid? The person who does NOT stop. Who doesn't let it go. It doesn't matter what they say, it doesn't matter even if their insults are witty or hit close to the mark. People look and say, "Ugh, another stupid post by...".
So did Floop and Hordak let it go? I would argue no.
However, Dave & I have been discussing this since yesterday and I believe that the consensus has been that since Floop was mostly reactional that he will be back sooner than a week. As well, since Hordak did publically apologize and cease posting as he was still being called on after my global warning, he will be back early as well.
Neither Dave nor myself likes to be the "hall monitor" as some would put it, but we have to to prevent "this forum from becoming shit", which I definitely don't agree it has and certainly don't want to see that happen. If it were, then I guess I wouldn't waste tonnes of time and effort these past few days fighting it. There are a lot of cool people who have stuck through the low points that I really enjoy chatting with. And others that may never be back.
The point needed to be made to everyone: DON'T GET INVOLVED. Don't sink to that level.
And don't worry, they'll be back soon enough.

i wouldn't say the forum went to shit, but its fallen from the first 6 months or so when it was golden - but, as the outsiders taught us all, nothing gold can stay

Anyhoo, this board is far far better than any weezer board. That's what I've always loved about it; the people here are smart and helpful and generally nice. There are a few rotten eggs but overall it's great.
