I am enjoying the irony of a "Mac vs PC" thread dissolving into a "how do I fix my PC" thread. I know, I know Macs break too and they can be expensive to fix, but fixing them doesn't usually involve finding the proper firmware. |

Usually the words "Mac" and "upgrade" aren't uttered in the same breath, either. |

Heh, Darwin, staunch PC enthusist though I am, that is pretty amusing. Though BLT's counterpoint is equally amusing.

at least you can fix your pc by yourself.what do you do with a broken mac?other than buying a new one i mean.after all i like fixing my pc.gives me a sense of authority over the machine and makes my ego feel better, mac users can't feel the overwhelming sense of triumph over a piece of hardware that doesn't want to work properly.

First and foremost: I am not a computer techie. I base my opinion solely on personal use.
munchien, I hate to admit it, but admitting that it gives you a sense of accomplishment to fix a PC is not a good argument against someone saying that Macintosh is better.
I don't believe that either company is innately better than the other, I think people have this unrealistic view of Macs that they are, as has been mentioned here before, the "underdogs" who are in actuality better. The machines to me just seem suited to different purposes. The majority of people who just want a computer for everyday use, like surfing the web and sending and recieving e-mail, tend to gravitate towards PC's. They seem to me like the most user-friendly computers out there. Macintosh, while far from being incomprehensible, takes a little bit more thought to find out how to do certain things, whereas in Windows it's all laid out for you.
For graphics purposes, I would tend to go with a Mac. They seem better suited to computer graphics than PCs do. (However, the G4s we have at school are slow as SHIT compared to my computer, which is a Dell Dimension 4500 with 111 G hard drive space and 512 memory, which is pretty basic -- I'm sure this has to do alot with the age of the computers at school.) I can't wait to try out a G5.
I guess overall, I don't think one is better than the other, and it just depends on what you use them for. For ease of use, definitely Windows. For graphics, which not everyone is involved in, I'd say Mac. I would also like to point out that the next computer I get will be a Mac.

it wasn't a pro-pc argument.i was just saying that when a problem comes out (and it will come out since no system is perfect)you have more chances to fix a pc by yourself (free of charge)without having to send the box to specialized (expensive-time wasting-not always successfull)assistance.
and darwin,i shall overcome (sooner or later).i 've seen worse things than a bizzare floppy drive.

Building a PC from various boxes of parts is a nice feeling. You feel like Victor Frankenstein-- your creation may not be perfect, but it is alive. |
