lately, i get more enjoyment watching a movie that's really bad (and unintentionally funny) than watching something that's trying to be good, but is bad (like, say, almost every movie that's come out this year)..
a guy i work with is a pretty hardcore movie collector and he's been lending me some excellent DVD's...
watched THE BEACH GIRLS AND THE MONSTER last night.. quite a gem. anyone seen it? i'd recommend renting it if you can find it. very funny..
also, I WAS A TEENAGE WEREWOLF.. which is actually a pretty good film, but so dated and over the top.. another one you can't go wrong with.
long live 50's teen horror movies. |

How about "Brewster's Millions?" It was originally intended to be funny, but a few years back me and my buddy watched it while tripping on mushrooms, and I'll be damned if it wasn't the funniest movie I'd ever seen. We sat there the whole movie through, laughing, and never once took our eyes off of it.
Or, how about "Flowers in the Attic" the movie based on the V.C. Andrews novel series? Some pretty over-the-top acting, especially from the woman who played the mother.
"The Karate Kid" seemed like the pinnacle of theatrical achievement when I was six or so. I watched it the other day. Quite a different story.

wax on...... Remember Tron?
Hey this is a little off topic but has anyone seen a movie called the River's Edge with Crispin Glover (he is too good)? I can't seem to find it anywhere. |

watching otherwise unnotable material while under the influence of drugs is an entirely different topic. but i suppose along the same lines.. the unintentional pleasures that come from really bad material and/or drug-induced movie watching. |

Cool, glacial, I've always wanted to try shrooms...for my future reference, do you think they and/or the movie were unfairly enhanced by one another? ;)
hhmmm, I know there are many movies I've seen that would fit your bill, floop - can't think of em right off the bat though. I guess it would be cheating to list all the ones MST3K did, wouldn't it? ;) Why do they have to make their DVDs so darned expensive, anyway? All our VHS tapes of MST are overplayed and just about shot now. :(
Now that I think of it, "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" is just damn funny, and "The Kentucky Fried Movie", and "I'm Gonna Get You Sucka" and "The Brother From Another Planet" (all camp, but bad, but funny all over again) |

It's so dumb.
It's really kinda funny though. |

see, i wouldn't count I'M GONNA GET YOU SUCKA or BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET because those are both good-good. as in, they're both very good comedies, and intended to be so..
the key ingredient i'm looking for is unintentional humor, derived from sheer badness, or weirdness, or datedness..
you can't go wrong with almost anything from the 50's.. drive-in horror movies. |

exactly. CONAN THE BARBARIAN is hilarious.. especially considering recent events. ..
by the way, RIVER'S EDGE is a great film. i would think they'd have it at your video store. i guess it's kind of cult status, but i would think most places would have it |

NAIL GUN MASSACRE is easily one of the most entertaining unintentionally bad films. The killer has this classic getup on. A biker helmet with duct tape over the visor so you can't see his face, and a huge nail gun pack with a big yellow cord. He has horrible punch lines when killing people, and the nails are made of rubber and the people bleed chocolate syrup, and still breathe after being killed. A nail to the arm can kill them. Oh, you've got to see it to beleive it, but be warned, the scenes that attempt to develop the characters are very boring and go on for way too long. But it's worth watching for the killings, cuz they're ridiculous. |

that sounds promising.. thanks for the recommendation.
that reminds me of COMMANDO, a movie that i thought was the shit when it came out (as a young lad) and happened to see it on cable a while back. so funny.. embarassingly, i knew like every line.
it's actually a decent action film, i guess, for that time.. but the dialogue is so hilariously bad. and most of the situations are so over the top and ridiculous. it's great. |

Manos: The Hands Of Fate- Quite possibly the worst movie ever shown on Mystery Science Theater 3000, therefore, one of the worst anywhere. So bad I had to get a copy, VHS of course. Highly Recommended!

I know now that Fargo was supposed to be a comedy but when we rented it it was labled drama. We all thought it was supposed to be serious and so had a laugh riot. I'm probably stating the obvious but as I haven't done any research on it I can't be sure - I think Fargo was meant to be marketed as a drama just so people would make fun of it.
It reminds me of a comedian I saw once. His act was so bad that people were in hysterics laughing at how horrible he was. I thought that was brilliant - it doesn't matter why you're laughing so long as you're laughing.

Manos: The Hands Of Fate- OOOH YEEAH! Oh god I loved that movie. Torgo with the weird knees... A friend of mine used some Manos samples in a song called Mexican Wrestling Mask of a Purse. You can hear it here: http://www.garageband.com/artist/pelon Any Russ Meyer movie is good. Orgy of the Golden Nudes is another classic off the top of my head.

Omega Man with Heston. It's truly terrible, with counter-culture zombies. Oh, also "The Crippled Masters," a kung-fu film about a guy w/ no arms (well, there's a thumb sticking out of his shoulder) and a guy w/ legs that have no muscles (just bone & skin). THey team up and fight people. Its awesome |

Space Truckers. The acting and dialogue is just a disgrace. The person who plays the women, I forget her name is so awful I laugh everytime I see the words Space and/or Truckers. |

Haha. That 10 minute fight scene between those two guys in THEY LIVE is classic. I happened to catch that part on television once, and rented the film on the promise of that scene. I was very disappointed because nothing else in the film comes close to being as entertaining as that scene. |

believe it or not, i took a film theory class that was loosly structured around THEY LIVE. my professor was really into John Carpenter.. and he worked in all this film and psychoanalytic theory..
he would probalby argue that that scene was meant to be a parody of fight scenes.. but either way, that is a classic scene. it's so funny. |

i just remembered "the storm riders" a sci-fi kung fu movie.they gave the dvd with a magazine and it was reviewed as "the hong kong response to matrix.a film that in asia was seen more than titanic".hilarious.i will just say that a character disappears in the middle of a fight without explanation.the camera zooms on his opponent, the scene changes and that's it.it goes on with something else.i haven't had a good laugh for a while before watching this.
