Woooa, I've saw them yesterday in Paris. They are great musicians, they really write good songs (Careless Hands!), and I liked a lot their attitude, no rock n' roll cliché. And most of all, they're just 21...
For those who would like to try some, I recommend:
I remember when Dreaming Of You Calendars and Clocks Pass it On Careless hands Leizah

No no no no no. NO. Bunch of scallies! No! Sorry, the Coral are just wrong. I tried liking them but found out after a while that they had one good song, Dreaming Of You. I can handle the "aah-woo" bits. But d'you know what? Turns out its a Showaddywaddy song...

i'm quoting what he said as he's spot on. scally no-marks! the only good thing about them touring and making music is they're not going to mug people and steal cars... unfortunately it means occasionally i'm forced to hear their rubbish...

The Coral = pretty fucking good, people. They're pretty eclectic sounding - people say they sometimes sound like the Magic Band, but uh, no. They don't. They occasionally sound like Camper Van Beethoven (one of my favorites!), Kaleidoscope (the Bay-Area band), Madness, and / or Zappa. I really like these guys. Want to get ahold of their new(ish) album, but 'tain't out in the States yet.

Don't be dragged in, they'll steal your hubcaps and about £15 of your hard-earned money and spend it on cheap shell-suits and trimming their permed mullets. For the record they sound nothing like Camper Van, Madness or Zappa, although I can't comment with Kaleidoscope.

I know what you mean Cheeseman, they are just too northan, as soon as you hear them speak, you expect them to steal your car or try and shag you sister.
The lead singer from Alfie is just the same, as is anyone further north than Cambridge. |

Knowing nothing about The Coral or Alfie, this is the funniest thing I've read in a long time. Bitter regionalism is great! One day I think I'll even quote that "steal your car/shag your sister" bit.

Actually, I'm suspicious of anyone north of the Watford gap, so I don't trust you entirely... Funny, though, that this stops when you get to the border, I like Scottish people pretty much entirely.
However, there's no excuse for Liverpool, it became culturally irrelevent after 1966-ish. When Wayne Rooney is your only redeeming feature you've got to start worrying...

Good point, I might as well include Manchester in my random burst of invective, although the culture is slightly more appealing. But really, Manchester United? the Curry Mile? run away!

I agree, Wales is fine, but I'm yet to be convinced of Manchester's worth. Maybe it was the time I was there when I was about six or seven, and the butcher offered me out. Kind of puts you off...
Plus, rockathon, its all good natured, honest (damn scousers...)

You're pardoned. It means to suggest a duel, pistols at dawn. Except updated a bit.

Sorry Cheeseman...old forum joke. There was a thread about disgusting euphamisms and the "Sneaky Butcher" was someone who snuck his meat in through the back door...(think of perverted sexual acts.) Sorry.

Feel free to join the debate, its healthy and natural to slag off Liverpool. The pic in barney's post, btw, is a very accurate and correct portrayal of Scousers.

Yeah, come here. Do the sights. Point at stuff. Hang out with us cool people. If you do come, come to Camden, and go to a gig at the Hope & Anchor or Dublin Castle. Also, go to Scotland and Wales and Cornwall and Devon and everywhere else that is so beautiful.
Just steer clear of Liverpool, Manchester and Sunderland.

Just English tradition, really. Basically, they're really scrubby and rancid parts of the country. I ought to add at this point that I am just joking. There are nicer places to see, though, thats for sure.

Here's an iconic landmark near where I live made famous by the Simpsons:
If by unlikely circumstance you are ever in Knoxville, you must visit it or you can't say that you have experienced America. (Just kidding, BTW.)

I live in Oak Ridge, which is about 15 miles away from Western K-Town and is continually connected with buildings and such, but not actually in the city of Knoxville...
I am, however, moving up there at the beginning of the year.
I don't know exactly what they do with the tower nowadays...used to have a restaurant at the top, as well as some gift shops and such. Now it might be closed down, I don't know. I haven't been up in it since I was really young.

Macomb is uh... Er. Pretty shitty. How the hell would anyone know about Macomb outside of the U.S., honestly? I'm surprised I know of it living outside of Georgia.
And what, is it the occasional skirmishes with ska or world music that make you NOT think they sound a little bit like Camper Van (the other two examples I can understand)?

To be honest it sounds even less exciting now than it did on the Simpsons! Perhaps its the US version of Liverpool, i.e. exciting for about five minutes a few years ago, now a dusty, tumbleweed town on the outskirts of nowhere [cue Good, Bad & Ugly soundtrack].

Macomb is where Nelson wanted to go rather than Knoxville, don't worry, pointless Simpsons babbling again...
The thing that makes me think that the Coral don't sound like Camper Van Beethoven is the fact that they don't sound like Camper Van Beethoven!
