Yeah, i got a few messages on it..not sure what to make of it. I've hated the fuckers since they limited folks to three songs, so this is of no concern to me. I serve all my songs myself now, and thanks to my buddy who runs this server, i don't have to worry about space or bandwidth. |

Crap - thanks for the heads-up, miguel. My husband has some pretty old stuff on there, but all the same, I guess it's time to shop around for a new venue. At least until we get a new website up.

I still like soundclick.com. They don't limit the amount of songs you post, they allow flash on their site, pictures, lyrics, stats, charts. You have full and instant control over the content on your pages, no waiting for apporval from staff or anything for mp3 uploads like mp3.com or garageband. The only thing is no song can be larger than 10mb. I've used it for years.

Good riddance. MP3.com sucks dick. Unless you pay $20 a month you get fucking pop-up ads on all your pages and they take FOREVER to approve and verify your mp3's. For anyone who was on the site back in '99/'00, before their stocks took a dive and they scrambled to make money, you'll remember how wonderfully utopian the site USED to be. It was free, it was fast, and it felt like something revolutionary was happening. Maybe CNET can restore some of it's former glory, but I doubt it.

Any other suggestions besides soundclick and vitaminic? What sites seem to have the best signal to noise ratio?

What ever happened to iuma.com? Does it suck ass now? I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned here yet.

It's still going but I think it is owned by vitaminic now.

Is epitonic worth looking at? I've only ever heard the name but it sounds quite good...

Yeah like they made the site and just left the country. Remember that deal where they paid people to name their kids Iuma? What the hell?

Never heard of epitonic before. I took a look at it and it seems pretty simplistic.

I've seen people posting links to it here, but I haven't bothered to check it out.

I like epitonic.com very much - good cross-referencing, related suggestions, and background info. *free* mp3s, nice playlist set-up, called "blackbox" - AFAIK it's not meant as an mp3.com/vitaminic/garageband structure or whatever - it's just a compilation/reference source of signed artists, from a lot of genres. Worth checking out if you're looking to buy new music. |

Interesting. So I was correct in thinking that CNET was merely in it to make a profit. I was thinking of starting my own site called "fuckmp3.com", but if archive.org picks it up, maybe I won't. I wonder if they'll still accept new material?

I love archive.org. One of the best sites on the net...such a noble cause. I only hope they stick around for good.

Uh..how would anyone access the songs?
For example..i have over 40 songs on MP3.com, but since their new system, only 3 can be accessed..they would need to create some sort of interface very similar to what MP3.com has, eh? |
