Ok
I know shit about film/movies
so let me ask this question:
There's a Quentin Tarintino Box avaible for 20 euro's (that like 21 dollar), it's got Pulp Fiction, From dusk till dawn and Jack ''Something'' (I think it was 'brown'). All these movies are on DVD.
Should I get it? (that would be my first DVD's or movies at all)

It's seems like something that might be cool to own, if only for having Pulp Fiction. I thought From Dusk Till Dawn was vile and I never saw Jackie Brown. |

Yeah, I liked Excess Baggage ONLY because Benecio is in it and he says "Emily" a lot. That was somehow enough for me. I guess it's all where your interests lie!

that's an awfully strange box set but for 20 bucks I suppose you should go for it. From Dusk til Dawn is amazing. I can see why some people dislike it but it's absolutely brilliant in all respects. Jackie Brown is very slow and often boring but a decent story if you can get through it.

btw (and you probably know better than me) I though euros were quite a bit more valuable than the dollar. My rough guess for 20 euros would be a bit over 30 dollars.

FROM DUSK TILL DAWN wasn't directed by Tarantino (just co-scripted), but hey.. sounds like a good deal to me. |

Buy it. Pulp fiction is a must for any movie watcher. Dusk til dawn is just amazing, but evidently not to everyones taste, with a great 'twist' that no one sees coming, ill say no more. Jackie Brown well its um....well I dunno really, a cool story just I didn't find it to interesting. But for that price you can't go wrong. |

I hated Jackie Brown, hated the characters and the story. There's few movies that I can't bring myself to sit through. I found 2001 less boring than this.
Maybe this is going to be heretical but....I don't much think I like Pam Grier. At least not in this; I've never seen her old movies like "Blackula" and such.
Directed by Tarantino or not, "From Dusk til Dawn" was pretty interesting, but I thought it was alot more intriguing before the vampire element was introduced. It still didn't completely lose it's appeal after that, just seemed alot less dramatic...

be careful with low price dvd's.most of the times i got a dvd for less than 10eu it was a horrible disc pretty much a vhs badly transfered on digital.which means:you get only one language(if it's dubed you can't see the film in original language),no subs,no special contents(just chapter division),no dolby surround\dts just bad or mon stereo sound at max and worse of all low quality image.said that,if you don't care much about the film but just want to watch it a couple of times the price is good since getting it from blockbuster for 2-3 days would probably cost you more.
about the specific box:
pulp fiction is a classic and a must have
jackie brown sucks.way too slow will probably bore you to death
fdtd is not exactly a tarantino movie.he acts in it and he co-wrote the story if i am not wrong but the movie is directed by another.it's a nice little film

HAHA! Everyone and I mean everyone I know (including myself) has fallen asleep while watching it for the first time. I thought it had a cool plot but it was just too GD slow.

My mom thought the same thing - that it was a brilliant crime film before the vampires. Another friend of mine always shuts it off when they get to the Titty Twister ("Now this is my kind of place") and he considers that a complete movie.
I think it was the make-up guy for Reservoir Dogs that struck a deal with Quentin. He said he'd do the make-up for free or at least cheap (Quentin didn't have much funding) if Q would agree to write up a script for a vampire story he had written. It took Q a while but he finally got around to it. The film is directed by Robert Rodriguez (another great director and co-director of Four Rooms).

RR's segment of FOUR ROOMS was the best one by far, in my opinion. i hadn't heard that story about the RESERVOIR DOGS make-up guy.. but that sounds plausable. when he was writing FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, that was still pre-PULP FICTION (though post-RESERVOIR DOGS), when he was still pretty much nothing (though an up-and-comer). so i can see him trying to strike a deal for funding ..
now he's pretty much set. he can do whatever he wants. which, he's doing. and i'm sure he doesn't have a hard time getting funding. |

a-HAA! I knew it. You know how? I haven't seen the movie. This is kinda weird, cause I was looking to see if there was such a thing as a "floop-horn" in Dr. Seuss (you know, to make sure you could use the name if you wanted, if you ever patent it), and my searches kept bringing up the character from Spy Kids. The decoding of the puzzle of floop begins! mwhAHhahahaHah!
Oh yes, the topic. oops. IMHO, I would just spend my money on a collector's edition Pulp Fiction DVD ($22.49 US on amazon.com), rather than a budget-set, two-thirds of which you will probably not watch more than once.

apl brings up a good point. The only feature my Pulp Fiction has is Uma Thurman's foot moving on the menu screen.
I also have the Special edition FDTD DVD and it's killer. It comes with the documentary "Full tilt Boogie" which is pointless but cool. Depends on how much special features mean to you.

yeah, staying on topic.. i'd agree with apl4eris. get the PULP special edition.. or the RESERVOIR DOGS special edition..
i agree with everyone about JACKIE BROWN for the most part. the characters are great. but it's about a half hour too long.
FROM DUSK TILL DAWN is a fun rental. but not a must-have to own. |

I, for one, thought that Jackie Brown was the best of Tarantino's movies...it exhibited the most well-crafted, intricate plot he's come up with to date.

Ian Brown said he liked Jackie Brown more than any other Tarantino movie. But it was probably just for the cameras. Bet he hasn't even seen it. In fact I doubt he even knew who Quentin Tarantino was. |

I'm with SpeedyM! Jackie Brown is my fave Tarantino movie by far. I saw it three times at the theater and once more on tv. What's wrong with slow movies?

There's absolutely nowt wrong with em. To be sure. I think I liked Jackie Brown better than Kill Bill, purely for the Tarantino-esque dialogue, etc., which is where KB lost out. Plus, it has Samuel L Jackson, which is always, always a good thing, despite my discovery the other day that he's 53!

call me crazy but i thought KILL BILL was kind of slow too, at points. yes, slow..
i got the impression that, because they decided to split it into two movies, they had to put everything in to fill it out, and make sure it was feature-length. i'm thinking in particular about some of the driving scenes... when Uma is following that chick on the motercycle. that just seemed to go on forever. as a whole the film was not slow, but there were some segments that dragged..
nothing wrong with slow, if it's done well |
