"My Favorite Kiss" or "Goodbye Lorraine" easily could be played on country stations, although I'm not too sure how the Travis Tritt and Bonnie Rait crowd would recieve it...

Massif Centrale should certainly have been the first single taken from SMYT, but I don't think it would have been a hit - too hard and too "bizarre".
Personally I consider His Kingly Cave to be the best FB "missed hit".

I always thought that "Places named after numbers" had i nice ring to it.
Still i agree that "St francis dam disaster" is a great track my favorite on "dog in the sand"
