Never had Krystals but White Castle is fucking disgusting...yuck. I never liked them. We are talking about the fast food chain, right?

yes. Fast Food.
See, in the southern states we have the Krystal chain which is a bad rip of White Castle IMHO.
As they are both only "good" when you are good and drunk or stoned riding around at night (with a designated driver mind you) the question comes down to...when you got the muchies which do you prefer WC or Krystals.
Me, I prefer White Castles. With Onion Rings. On them. |

Never seen a Krystals, White Castle is only good if your too drunk to know you are there. I'd go with Steak 'N Shake.

Chili three ways rocks as well.
I still really enjoy White Castles. Especially their new jalapeno cheese burgers.

Doesn't finding the Spot lead to the big O? At least that's what the ladies tell me. |

I've never heard of Krystals, but the thing about White Castle isn't the food. Its the culture. Its having the munchines REAL FUCKING BAD after the Led Zep concert at the Chicago Ampheatere, maaaaaan, and going to the WC at 135th and Cicero and meeting some cute guys who don't go to your high school (so they don't know that you're actually a nerd chick who has to study for her Advanced Placement Physics quiz the following monday) and hanging out and slamming some sliders and pretending that you're just a cool burnout chick. Its going to college 2 hours South in Champaign with nary a White Castle nearby, and even though its gross, you miss that taste, that after-hours taste (that Steak n Shake beats to hell, but that's not the point) so some local band FLIES 20 DOZEN SLIDERS in for some wacky promotion and you actually go to the show and eat them, lukewarm, just to say you participated in it. Its the scene in Saturday Night Fever where Tony and his buddies take Stephanie and they all act like asses because it ain't the Chez Paul, it's fucking White Castle, man, and she actually thinks its fun/funny but would never admit it because she's trying to learn how to be snooty. Its driving to the WC near your high school for lunch because there's a kid in your class who's never had a slider, (and you agree to bring some back for your econ teacher, who has a hankering for 'em) and bitching at the kid for ordering a fish sandwhich instead. Who the hell orders the fish at White Castle?
God, no, NOBODY eats sliders for the taste.

I remember talking about this in "cooking hamburgers," a thread a few months ago. I've never eaten at White Castle, eaten at Krystal plenty though. Krystals to me are good the first few bites, but after you've finished a #1 with cheese you feel like there's grease coursing through your veins. Also, what is that soggy mashed-potato like substance that forms on the buns of Krystal burgers? (No, for those of you who don't know of Krystals it's not mold or anything...) Is it fat? Soggy bun material? ...what??? I do remember being taken to Krystals alot when I was a kid, though, and back then it used to seem like a treat.
Anyone from out west (in the U.S.) ever hear of "Taco John's?" It's this rip-off of Taco Bell, only cheaper. Scary. |

I have come to the conclusion that Krystals and a salt lick for deers have the same amount of nacl. |

I've never been to Krystals, but I love white castle. I've eaten ten at one time.

We don't have either where I am - but I always make it a point to go to White Castle when in New York or any other area which has 'em. Last road trip across the country I had some in Ohio, and spent the rest of the route to the eastern seaboard utterly frustrated by the lack of White Castles.
Never been or even heard of Krystals until this thread.
The pleasure... was ME. |

Anybody else upset at the new WC sign design? Funny, the WC, water closet...
Also, I used to (haven't had one in a few years) order the double cheeseburger and remove the center piece of bread, which sops up the extra grease. ALWAYS to be accompanied by an xtra large Big Red, and eten whilst drunk and in full-on great live band after-show overheated excitement.

You all miss the point.
White Castle is not a hamburger. It's a white castle.
No one said anything about hamburgers. |
