They are doing a memorial show in Las Angeles on Monday Nov. 3rd. I bet it would be a great way to see and deal with Elliott's death. This will be a show filled with people that loved Elliott as much as a fan could. To check out details on the show go to www.sweetadeline.net I can't go be cause I live in Dallas Texas and plus I bet the tickets are already sold out. Beck, Conor Oberst, Grandaddy, Rilo Kiely and others will be playing at this show. They will also play the "Strange Parallel" Documentry about Elliott Smith. I wish I could go. If anybody can go please write me and tell me how it was. |

I'ma an italian guy and just registered (few minutes ago) on Frank Black forum and the first news I had was Elliot Smith's death and I still cannot believe it ! How can a person kill himself by stabbing a knife in his chest!? It is too cruel, sad, brutal and suffering ! It is possible that SOMEONE killed him ? In Italy the only Elliot's cd I could find is 'Figure eight' (great!) but all the other cds (i'm looking for XO since 2000 !) are impossible to find here. Please help to hear something from 'XO'!

Welcome to the forum, ElCorazon! Can you use www.amazon.com? I don't think there is an Italian amazon yet, but you seem to have very good english :) (way better than my Italian, I can assure you!)
Also, you can try www.gemm.com or www.musicstack.com/" target="_blank">http://www.musicstack.com/ They are both good places for hard-to-find music. I hope that helps. |

Thanks a lot! I will search. In Italy it is also impossible to see Frank Black live if not as openeer of a Placebo concert, with all the people screaming at the unknown (for them) artist to go away and let them see and listen to Placebo(!). So I think I will go in Geneve (Switzerland) to see a real FB concert at the end of november. Bye.
See you forever |

gosh, its sad. i only have the self-titled one(the blue one?) which i only got recently, cos i heard needle in the hay and frank had that song on that list, and...yeah. i hadn't listened to it so much, but i liked it. now i have to go and buy the others. i guess its a bit late now though. its weird, i was infinland and i bought Magnet(which i think is american?) and he was still alive at the time of printing cos it was talking about him and what he was doin now. then i got a chance to check me emails and one of them said he was dead but i didn't believe it. well, its sad.

I saw the Flamimg Lips last week and Wayne made a tribute to Elliott and dedicated "Waiting for Superman" to him. It was really nice. |

I picked up XO to see what his music was like and I really enjoyed it. I'm sorry to hear that he killed himself though. I am not a big fan of suicides. I have known too many people in my life that have committed suicide and as someone else put it, I see it as a very selfish act. Too consumed with themselves to see how their act will affect others. I'll still enjoy listening to the CD that I have but I seriously doubt I will pick up any others, now.
I encourage you to pick up Either/Or and Figure Eight because they are so good and you would be doing yourself an injustice if you didn't hear that music. As for suicides, I don't like the idea of suicides and I wish they didn't happen but, I don't think the person committing suicide is doing it to be selfish. People that committ suicide have problems and see it as there only way out. They think they are doing a favor to the people around them because if they don't like themselves they believe that no one else likes them. Suicide is one of the saddest things to me because the person that commits the suicide has a feeling of complete lonlieness before they die. A person has to be completly depressed in order to do enough harm to themselves to kill themselves. Especially the way Elliott died. He stuck a knife through his heart. He must have been feeling so unhappy. I really think you should reconsider and buy as much Elliott Smith as you can.
Okay, Blue, I will concede. I have found myself listening to XO a lot more since he died. It is such good music. I will have to at least hear "The Needle in the Hay" since everyone here seems to be mentioning it. I may very well pick up some of his other stuff, too. It has piqued my interest. The suicide part though, to me and my personal experiences, just brought back too many sad memories and I guess the anger I felt from the situations too. Want a condensed version? My best friend was killed in a motorcycle accident. On Christmas eve of the same year his older sister shot herself in her parents house. I knew her real well but never, ever thought she would do anything like that. Then the next year the oldest brother having marital problems and still dealing with the death of his brother and then his sister's suicide, committed suicide, too.
I was working a construction job in Garden City, KS and started getting acquainted with one of the workers and one day he asked me if I would go out drinking with him. This was on a Thursday. I turned him down. Then I found out Monday that he had rented a motel room and shot himself. I know its not my fault but I always wondered if I had gone out with him, if maybe it would have made any difference. Too bad our brains aren't like computers and we could just hit the delete button to get rid of some of this stuff. And I'm sure that I'm not the only one who wishes this.
Sorry for the downers. |

I know what you mean. One of my jobs is helping children that have had a parent die. The children are between the ages of 4 and 18. The kids that have had a parent committ suicide have problems because they are always asking "what if" questions just like you were. But at the same time they feel mad at the person for taking their life and therefore changing the childs life forever. Also it is still such a taboo topic in our society that some kids are afraid to talk about how their parent died. On a lighter note, I'm delighted that you have decided to give Elliott Smith a chance. I love everyone of Elliott's Albums but, I would say check out Either/Or next or mabe Figure 8. Needle in the Hay is an exellent song and you should listen to it, that song is on his self-titled release. My fav. song is Independence Day from XO and The Enemy is You (B-side). Let me know what you think of his music. That is great you decided to give him another listen too. |

It is a very rewarding job but, it is sad. benji hopefully you had someone to help you through that difficult time in your life. I wish I could have been there to help you 11 years ago.
I'm still upset about elliott smith but, he did leave us with many awesome songs. My favorite right now is a b-side called "the enemy is you". |
